My girlfriend and I are looking for a place to get away this weekend. We'd like to go to a hot spring, though a jjimjilbang would suffice in a pinch. But we'd like to sleep in an actual room and not on the floor of a giant common room (not that we haven't done that before). So I started calling around to various saunas and hot spring resorts and asking them if there were accommodations inside their facility. Not only did every single one of them say no, but they reacted with shock, like I was asking for someone to sell me anchovy flavored ice cream. I suppose we could just go to a jjimjilbang and then a separate hotel. But it would suck to get all relaxed in the sauna, then pile on eight layers of clothing to brave the icy winds just to get to a bed.

So my question is, does such a thing exist as a hot spring or sauna that actually has hotel rooms available on-site? Ideally, something in Seoul or Gyeongi-do, but Gangwon or Chungcheon would be fine if it's really good. Any help you could give me in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

I suggest you consider Cheoksan Oncheon in Sokcho.

Its a beautiful facility in a park-like setting & the quality of its water is widely renowned among Koreans. I havent stayed in the guest rooms but I imagine they're fine. Each has its own spring-water tub as well.

The public sauna is a very nice operation, I've been a regular there for many years. Note though, its not jjimjilbang-style, but only separate men's & women's areas.

The site is compact but offers a couple places to eat, a coffee shop, & a convenience store. If the rooms in the main building are too pricy, theres a secondary building right next door with rates more similar to a motel. You're only about 15 minutes away from the entrance to Seoraksan Park as well.

Buses from Seoul to Sokcho take just over two hours. Cheoksan would be about a 5000 won taxi ride from either local terminal.

Heres their website (in Korean): http://www.cheoksan.co.kr/
