You've definately got me -- 35 high school girls for three to four classes a day. It's not bad, though.
Definately easier than teaching 12 grade school students. I taught 23 grade school students last year, and it was hell. Spent more time trying to discipline than teach. If I could speak Korean and had been given some power to discipline as the Korean teachers were, it would have been different. It's still too many, in my book. |

I teach large classes.
At first I thought it wasn't useful for the students. However, I have come to learn that a properly planned class is always successful.
The slower students miss out, but at home private tutoring was usually just for slow students anyway, so they should go to hagwons.
The one use of hagwons - help dumb people throughout the world. |

| My class sizes doubled today and for at least a week until we hire a new teacher... when you're used to 4-6 in a class and suddenly get 10-12 in a class, it feels like 100. Not to mention today all the kids were pumped full of sugar and what not... |

If they are young and in a hagwon situation, run away.

Let me think...
11 has been the highest since I started at this job 5 months ago. But often there are just 3-7. I'd say average is 4 or 5. So it aint the job that bums me out mainly. It's my life. Or more specifically, my life HERE.
But I do like my job. I like imparting knowledge. Presumably, sometimes I actually help somebody learn something. |
