For people looking for ESL jobs, how long did it take you to find one?
Here is my situation. I am an adopted Korean with F4 Visa status, my Korean is not good at all. I've been in the country for 4 months now and have just started applying for jobs. Unfortunately, even after applying for multiple positions, I still have not even received a call back. I have private tutoring experience, I graduated with a BS in Accounting from a good university but have not had any luck at all....
Has anyone run into this? How many applications did you have to do and how long did you have to wait until you actually found a position? Thanks guys, any advice would be useful. |

We've just passed the dry season which is between Oct & Dec where basically there are only a handful of good jobs going. However Spring is a peak time so you should be able to find something.
You have the big advantage of already having a visa, but the disadvantage of being Korean (I'm not being racist, it's just a sad fact that many schools prefer White American's).
Advice: Be realistic, be flexible & be patient. At the end of the day you have no ESL experience so you won't be earning a lot of money to start with. Also location, don't just confine yourself to Seoul think about Incheon, Suwon, Seongnam and other neighboring areas. Finally call recruiters, contact school directly (either in person or via phone/email etc) and don't give up.
18 months ago I got a job after the 5th interview, a year before that it was the 9th interview. Sometimes you need to be patient. |

Now that I've been pink-slipped there's a public elementary job available. Unfortunately it's not Seoul, it's in Yeuju, GyunggiDo. About 2 hours from Seoul by bus. That was a nice way for the principal to say 'Happy New Year'. |

You're probably just competing with lots of other gyopos, I would just be patient. I know a few gyopos who were able to get jobs, so I wouldn't worry yet if you're now just applying for jobs. And sometimes the recruiters take forever to get back to you. |
