James89- 3 weeks since you were recommended somewhere! That would be horrible! I was told it would be 1 maybe 2 at most.

If you go by the sign-in list being made on the Spring 2013 fbook group, with the exception of Daegu, Seoul or Daejeon, very few people have been notified yet. To some degree the list must be accurate.

I mean my documents arrived in Korea 3 weeks ago and I haven't been notified further if I have a position or not :/ Does this seem normal?! I obviously passed the interview etc and had all the correct documents as verified by my recruiter.

I've been on that facebook group, but haven't checked out that document yet. Thanks for the heads up.

James - My documents were received by EPIK on November 6th and I didn't receive any other information until November 29th. So, I think you're doing just fine!

Complete radio silence so far...I hope they don't ask for another interview. The very idea is daunting. I've been trying not to ask my recruiter, they are more of the "patience, things will come with time" mentality. May I ask what recruiter you are coming with?

I have a few similar things to do before I can leave, such as fly across country to drop off my dog with a friend for the next year. That's a hard trip to fit in at last minute, since I can't just drop her off and run.

I am going through Footprints (what about you?). They have been very helpful for the most part. But there is something I've noticed that I don't think is the fault of the recruiter, and that is that we are all on a need-to-know basis. We're only explained the details of each step of the process after we've completed the previous one. It seems as though we are on the home stretch, but this has to be the most difficult one of all, because we're cutting it so close to the time we're actually supposed to be there.

To all who have done this process before: could they change their minds and not hire me? Could something still go horribly wrong? I mean, I've already canceled my car insurance, quit my former career (I've got a job I'm working now, but it's just to pay the bills until I leave), and informed my landlord I'm moving out at the end of the month. Having all of this still "up in the air" is nerve wracking to say the least.

Reach to Teach technically. But since I haven't even heard from them since October, and instead have been working with ESLstarter, the recruiter EPIK assigned Reach to Teach to handle interviews. ESLstarter is pretty awesome, they respond very quickly to emails, and even sent me the notifications for passing several of the steps on holidays.

I actually heard this morning! I'm officially going to Busan!

But sadly the waiting game continues. You are totally right that we just keep getting things step-by-step, if they had us more informed we could be much more organized about everything.

I think that it's really rare to get this far along and not get placed. Stay positive!

Congratulations! I just found out I have been confirmed as well! Hopefully we'll see each other there? Do you know of any FB groups for Busan EPIKers?

Congrats to you as well! I saw where you posted on the fbook group I think. I don't know actually, I haven't really looked. I'm sure there is...somewhere!

my docs were approved on 12/28, I am starting to get a little nervous after seeing the fb post that EPIK had started sending out packets to ALL teachers. I hope I hear back soon, does anyone know what percentage of teachers to pass the interview and send all the required docs and not receive a NOA is?

I'm keeping a close eye on my email in the afternoon/evening as that is when Korean business hours are. From the sounds of it, it looks like you get an email stating which office has accepted you, and that an NOA is on its way, is this correct?

I just got an email from my recruiter (gone2korea) which reads: "Good news, EPIK updated your application status to 'recommended'. This means we're just waiting for the education office to sign off on your application for final approval."

Ugh. Still more waiting it seems. Confused

So has anyone here recieved their NOA package yet? I used a recruiter and haven't heard back from them yet.

They apparently -just- started doing it yesterday of course.

Also how big of a pain is getting the tax certificate? Is it something that I just take to Korea to become exempt from US taxes?

You're doing better than me. My docs were received and approved by EPIK as of December 3rd and I still haven't heard anything at all back. My recruiter says I was probably recommended to a MOE that hasn't started accepting applications yet.

I guess nobody has gotten their contract yet, and they're sending them out in the next couple of weeks? I've been sitting around waiting for over a month, worried that somehow I won't get to go. Hopefully it will turn out ok.

I'm in the same boat, after passing the interview and having all my paperwork together I kind of thought it was a for sure thing, but I guess it's not yet.

It's really stressful waiting this long to hear back about a job, but I think we can all relax for now because there are only 100 or so people who have added their names to the FB group list of teachers and locations. I think they hire somewhere around 600-800 every year, so there are probably still plenty of positions left, or at least there should be...

I just want to finally hear back and be done waiting already.

Basically that is what it is for, as far as I know. It can take 2 or 3 months to get it back though, so make sure the return address you'll receive it at is a permanent one (like your parents)...I put down my current address but now I'll be moving in with my parents until shipping out to Korea, so I dunno what to do to get it. Hopefully putting in an address forwarding form with the USPS can get it rerouted. Also I dunno when exactly you need it in Korea, hopefully if it takes 3 months (I applied for it in early December) I can get it mailed to me in Korea and still get the tax exemption.

If anyone's wondering about whether you can change the address to get the IRS residency tax certificate sent to, I just called the IRS (who still haven't processed mine even though I sent it a month ago, good ol' American bureaucracy) and they said once they process your payment they send you a 30 day notice letter saying it has been processed and will be returned in 30 days, and the letter has an ID number on it. Then you can fax in a "corrected" page 1 of the 8802 form with your updated address and referencing the ID number, and they'll update the address and I imagine any other info.

Finally heard back from my recruiter, saying I've been placed (in Chungbuk aka North Chungcheong province) and that the orientation dates are February 19th through 27th for Group 1, and the 20th through 28th for Group 2. I'm not seeing this on the EPIK website or facebook page though, this is just what I'm being told.
