I bought my apartment on my E2 with a mortgage from KEB. But I had over 60% down payment.

Part of the 1997 IMF bailout conditions for Korea were a set of new laws to bring Korea in line with the rest of the world. One of these laws was deregulating the real estate market so foreigners could enter.

Interesting. Sounds like just about anyone can buy. My Korean friend just said even with just an alien card (not permanent residency) and you can buy. But then if you leave KR and want to keep ownership what the heck happens? I guess as long as they thought you were living there (even if you were not) and had alien card renewed it wouldn't be an issue.

Basically a coworker with Korean wife wants to buy a place, but under his name, yet he would not necessarily be in KR much of the time. Sounds tricky.
