I guess I'm curious about the differences between Korea and Taiwan. This is not meant to be negative about either country but just to get an idea of what it's like. I've only ever taught in Korea. Is the market there past it's prime like Japan? I get the impression it's a poorer country than Korea, slightly. But what do I know?

Was there long ago, in 2001-2. Friendlier people. For east Asia it almost felt normal as a foreigner in Taipei. No big stares or hellos or any of that stuff really, or not much, in the capital that is. Countryside is different, naturally. Kind of boring I guess, as many others would say as well. Why not also ask your question on Taiwan forums?

To teach in a Taiwan public school you have to be licensed to teach in your own country. Someone was saying the private schools can be just as untrustworthy as the Hogwans.

Buxibans are essentially the same kettle of fish as hagwons in Korea with just about the same savings potential and visa issues (degree, cbc, certification of documents) for legal work.

As mentioned above, you need to be a certified teacher to work in the k-12 school system but the pay and perks are better than those for PS workers in Korea.
