I have Nong Hyup here and Chase at home (US). I need to transfer about 2 million won back home. I know Chase charges a $15 fee for incoming international wires, but I don't know how much I'll end up paying on the Nong Hyup end. Could someone who has wired money with Nong Hyup please let me know an estimate? Thanks!

I transferred money once with Nonghyub. With a teller, it came out to around 40,000 WON.

You're better off using the ATM. KB only charges 5,000 plus a middle bank fee of 13,000

I always transfer it online and it only costs 5,000 won.

Online banking with NH is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You will have to visit a branch in order to get it set up though, and it's best to go with someone that can speak Korean. You have to fill out a form to get online banking, and then if you are planning to send a lot of money home there is an additional form you should fill out too. I filled it out anyway just to save having to go back to the branch again.

You will have to create a transfer password and you will receive a card with lots of numbers on it. It's some sort of security measure and necessary to log in online.

Another thing you will have to do (probably at home) is create a certificate. You should create one for your computer and then copy it to a USB so you can access online banking from other computers too. You have to download a couple things like SecureKey for the NH website to work on your computer and be sure to use Internet Explorer.

After that it's pretty simple - just sign on to the website and process a request for overseas remittance using option 5. I know it all sounds complicated, but once you get everything set up it will only take 2 minutes to complete a wire transfer and the funds will show up in your account within 1-2 days.

If that sounds like too much work then you could try getting an account with KEB, I think they are the most foreigner-friendly. I hope I got everything, I signed up for online banking awhile ago.

I just made my first transfer home (to Wachovia) and it was 40,000 won from NH and $15 to Wachovia. Ouch. I will definitely use the ATM next time.

I am having a hard time figuring out what my "password" is for my 'foreign currency account.' Can anyone help with a step by step thing. i have attempted this 5 times now and am getting really sad!!!

I don't know if this thread is still active enough for this post to be seen but:

I am attempting to have a family member wire me some money from a US Wells Fargo account into my NH account. Other than acct. number and Swift number what information does my family member need to do the transfer?

Any help from someone who has done this before would be greatly appreciated.
