I've had a persistent cough for the last few weeks without any accompanying illness. |

The air pollution is awful. Absolutely awful.
But that is just part of the poisonous environment.
The water is also very polluted including bottled water.
The food is poisonous. The food is really unhealthy.
Don't even come near China. |
Here are some pics of how bad air pollution gets in Bejing.

So how is the air in Seoul?
Do people need to walk around with face masks? |

Face masks are indeed worn throughout Korea, especially during the season
of "yellow sand" (dust) that blows in from China.
However, I've never seen the sky black , just sort of a pukey yellow-brown. |

Is the smog from Beijing in Seoul now?
I wondered about the air quality in Korea. |

I'm curious as to how many of you that harp on air quality have actually noticed a decline in health after living in K-land or China. I lived in Seoul for five years. I could probably count using only my hands and feet how many days I could see the mountains that surround the city (a bit of an exaggeration, but get the point). I've been in Shanghai for 2 years now and the air is not the best here either. I get full health checks yearly and I'm no worse for the wear for having lived in these places. |
There's a lot of moisture and humidity in the air most of the year. This blocks the view of the mountains more than anything. Autumn more than other seasons seems to have winds blowing this out and revelaing blue sky changes this for a time. But Shanghai is next to the sea. So, would this be the same problem with pollutants mixed in? Never been to China. So, I can't honestly say or compare. Beijing seems nasty with what is happening now. I can feel more chilled in Korea with the dampness in winter than with much colder temperatures and a dryer cold back in Canada. |

What a dumb question.
The smog from Beijing dissipates 3 dimensionally if it ever makes it to Korea it is much, much weaker and basically harmless. |

The air was pretty bad in Shanxi Province, but didn't bother me much. Other things were more important. It's where a lot of coal comes from. You'd see those guys coming back from a day's work. A good layer of dust formed easily in the apartment, and it was possible to smell the air from inside a taxi with the windows closed, as I noticed once returning from a trip.
The constant honking of cars was worse. Saw a few accidents there. It was just too crowded everywhere. That city had around 3 million people. I lived near the center of it, in a real busy area. I still went months without seeing a foreign face. That was just a few years ago. Some locals reacted as you might expect when seeing the exotic white guy. Most didn't care. |

Hahaha, good one. I wonder what Chinese think of fat foreigners who teach there. In Korea, the children say "Hey it's pig teacher." |
