Hello. I currently live in a small room in Sinchon and I was planning to move to a new studio around Sinchon/Hongdae/Ewha (as they are close to the Gyeongui line). I was wondering if any of you know any places (maybe where you live now), websites, or any real estate agencies that can help me find a suitable place in the area. I know there are real estate agencies everywhere, but I was wondering if anyone knew a reliable one.

I know it's not ideal, but I want to find a place for short-term (4 months at least) and might end up staying longer. I'm also on a budget, so no 10Mil deposits; monthly rate up to 600k.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Very Happy

You won't find a place for 4 months. Other than goshiwons or student housing.

That's not true as I used to live in one before I moved here and a real estate agency helped me find it. The price, however, is a little higher than long term contracts. Also, I found one place, but I was wondering if there were any others to explore my options.

We've lived the area for over 15 years. Honestly, it's boots on the ground work. Every real-estate place will have different listings, and you'll often find that they'll team up these days as listings are slim. You might be able to luck into a 4 month deal with no down payment, but they'll want all 4 month's rent in advance.

You won't get much around here for that much, but you can try. That amount would put you in a 1 room or a pretty crappy place far from the subways. There is a co-op near Shinchon, but I think that runs about 100 a night.

Officitels, small ones, at least, would run 600-800 with 10 down, but the maintenance and utilities would gut you and they usually won't take short termers. You might be able to make a deal with a guest house for a long-term rate. There are a few nice ones in HongDae a block or three behind exits 1 and 2.

Check craigslist. There may be expats interested in subletting for a few months / year

(Almost) any place on-line is a complet rip off. I put 'almost' in parentheses on the outside chance that one exists that isn't a rip off, though I've never come across one. Get to the target neighborhood and walk around to all the local real estate places.

Yes, but I heard the Gilbert guy is a dick. Intentionally tries to rip foreigners off because he knows most of them probably can't speak Korean very well.
