To be fair if I were him and i'd been fired suddenly and ripped off for hundreds of pounds I would have messed up the apartment too. The difference is that he probably deserved to get fired and I would not have uploaded a video on Youtube of me committing the act whilst insulting other teachers and trying to act hard. He didn't pay his rent for 6 months and he's obviously bad news for everybody. If he hadn't been fired then I would have sent these videos to his employers just to ensure that he was.
Now I've not yet stepped foot in Korea and I consequently haven't experienced the problems that hagwons have to offer, but from what I can tell he had a sweet easy job, a nice apartment in a nice area, yet all he did in his videos was complain. When watching his apartment video where they have that section for putting your shoes, he just sort of said "not sure why they do this and I don't care" which isn't the attitude that somebody should have whilst visiting a foreign country. He also didn't care for national statues and was happy pointing cameras in people's faces. The guy is obviously not very caring and is just stupid for talking shit about his job and even naming his company, filming his boss and posting it for all to see. He's very uncultured and i'm sure his lack of etiquette has led to some of his problems.
That said, i'm not doubting some of the things he said, but there's no need to be rude to a whole nation. Also I've traveled for a few months and although it was the typical Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam route I can say that most of the people I've met certainly weren't odd-balls back in their home countries. Most people I met were fairly intelligent and good looking, though the crowd was interspersed with a few losers exploiting their ethnicity. I recall some areas in Thailand being populated with quite a good looking crowd of foreigners, but Korea doesn't even have the same allure of hookers that Thailand does, so I'd be very surprised if I bump into a lot of weirdo's in Korea. |

The guy pretty much sums up the losers that come to SK that A) never leave because no where else in the world will give them a job for that kind of compensation and B) Don't last more than a few months because of their attitudes.

My experience has been the opposite. With a few exceptions, the lifers have been the losers who clearly can't do anything else than exploit their skin colour and teach in after school programs/ PS schools as a native speaker "assistant." However, i know that lifers do exist that make it work with a family and kudos to them.
In my experience, Most of the "normal" folks did their 1-2 years, and then got the hell out. That is all we are really welcome for anyway. Try telling a Korean that you've lived in SK for 13 years and aren't married or with kids. In many cases you will get a perplexed look and the "when are you going home?" Question. I remember my coworkers saying that they lied to students when asked how long they had lived in SK. Reason being they thought that once you get over the 7-8 year mark, its a little embarrassing. |
Apparently, Koreans aren't the only ones who think you're not 'normal' if you choose not to get married and have kids. In any case, I'm not going to worry about what anyone else thinks about my life choices. It's staggering how many people, even in the West, make very important decisions based on what others think. Oh gee, I should be married by 30. Better put a ring on the next woman that walks by. Then pump out a few kids to prove my manhood/womanhood. And they call childless singles selfish... |

Bingo!
What a complete douchebag.
Arteta: he said he got shortchanged on his last couple of weeks but had not paid his bills in 6 MONTHS.... |

Agreed. Interesting how people will criticize Koreans for certain behavior/attitudes towards foreigners and then go on to exhibit that same behavior towards other foreigners. (And no I'm not referring to you Mr. BC.) |
