Uh! this is not some ajumma sitting in a train station. this is a complicated ritual and is practised in a large part of North Asia. The word shaman actually came from North Asia. There are still a few Mundang in Seoul and other parts of Korea. Whether you believe or not it is interesting and a look at the past. This is 'real" Korean culture. not some t.v. fabrication. If you are interested in this sort of thing, and you are in korea you should check it out.

| dairyairy - once again, I did NOT say that I was planning to find a fortune teller here and pay them to tell my my future. All I said was that I was interested in finding out about the history of fortune telling here. Two very distinct things. |
The subject of fortune telling may hold some fascination for you as a historical subject. More power to you. I'm just letting you know that in Korea, in 2013, fortune telling is widely seen as a sleazy business. You'll see fortune tellers everywhere, including subway stations and even job fairs. They even have fortune tellers next to the Yongsan CGV IMAX box office to tell you which movie to see and where to eat lunch in I Park mall.
I've had Koreans warn me to stay away from them and if you start talking with them hold onto your wallet. |

| Oh I understand about those scam artist. This is something different entirely and i should not have used the term fortune teller. The Mundang are very rare and most non Koreans have never seen or heard of them. |
