I'm currently looking for a job and have been looking at a lot of the advertisements put up by recruiters and i've noticed that most of them put together really crappy ads. Many just offer a barebones description of a job. Some don't mention the location of the job in the headline. MOst will just mention the name of the city. Only a few mention in which part of a city the job is located. Very few ever bother to mention the name of the school. Some recruiters that have several jobs just lump them all togher, not giving inof on any of the specific jobs. Then there are the spelling and gramatical mistakes. (i guess these can be somewhat forgiven since some are written by koreans)
I put my resume on a couple of sites and had a recruiter phone me. Within one minute he was telling my to lie to a prospective hogwon owner. (hhmmm nice one)
I guess the point of this is that most recruiters are not very good at their jobs. |

Of course they're not going to give you enough specific info about the job. If they did, you could go directly to the school and cut them out.
My guess is that a recruiter who gives too much info would be the one who isn't very good at their job, not the other way around.

I had a recruiter send me basically a rejection email over a position.
Problem was it wasn't addressed to me. My email address..someone else's name. Made me wonder about this recruiter....this one didn't have it together...that's for sure....

Recruiters are snakes. You have to be the mongoose. Play them like they play you. Remember also, your resume doesn't count for anything, nor do reference letters or your degree. All that matters is your picture. You can disagree all you want, but it's a fact. Good looks equals good job, nice contract, all your demands met. Ugly, fat, bald...better find another line of work. |

beast,
Thats only true for lower end jobs (i.e. entry level) and in the case of recruiters that are on a quota.
The picture remains important overall and that is too bad and a sad comment on the attitudes of some employers here.
The better jobs however ask for much more.
Quite a few recruiters have a more structured approach and do verify your information (mine did).
These more professional recruiters then get blasted by some prospective teachers because they ask for too much...like for example a verifiable degree...
There are also a few recrtuiters who post no specific jobs on their sites. What they do is take the prosective teachers information and preferences (concerning jobs) and then look for a matching job(s) in Korea.
This is more efficient. |

My favorite is the guy who I interviewed last week his C.V. said he has been 'teachiing' in Korea for 8 months. Has no other experience only a B.A. in unrealated area. Asked for 40,000 an hour minimum.

My recruiter was pretty sloppy, he told us we would be here by the beginning of october but we didn't get here until december! He also told us the job moarket wasn't very good here and not to check out Dave's because a lot of people had gotten screwed over by this website....well now I'm working at a wonderland school 10 hours a day...who screwed who??? |

I find this site to be a good resource for finding out which recruiters are good and which ones are bad. Though I do not like it when a good recruiter gets trashed over and over again on here by someone that was unqualified or a poor teacher.
I do post my resume on here sometimes to get leads on jobs. I have found that most of the bad recruiters will swamp my e-mail box within 12 hours. They are like wolves, offering really no good job. Some call, and offer you a position, but when you ask them for more info about it, they are extremely vague.
One thing I would suggest that the operator of this system could create listing of Recruiters that do work here in S.K. After that, have a rating system attached to each recruiting agency, which would allow only one regiestered e-mail address on this system to rate. Also allowing for a short comment to be included.
Thanks

A note for all you people looking for work.
Don't send STUPIDA$$ photos.
I can't believe the pictures people send in. Drunk in a bar, smoking a fag, arms around a group or guys/girls, sitting on the sofa watching T.V. standing infront of the Great wall of China... Just send in a normal passport colour photo, with you not wearing a t-shirt (shirt and tie would be good). Also don't wear jeans, T-shirts, wrinkled or dirty closes to an interview. If the job is any good you won't get touched with a 10 foot pole. Lots of recruiters may shit heads but don't blow your chance with one that might be good before you even start.

Yes the picture is important.
I was helping my former employer to hire and reviewed the applications for him. His English wasn't the best, so I read the resumes and summarized them for him. My boss was a really nice guy, but was definitely a sucker for a pretty face, judging from some of the Korean staff that went through there.
Well, a woman with very little teaching experience who had yet to finish a contract--doing anything, anywhere (Korea, Europe) applied for a job. I talked to her on the phone and found out that she was trying to leave her current employer, and had a hunch that it was probably more her fault than her employer's. Anyway, there was no way she was going to be able to work for us legally in the near future, and I told this to my boss as he looked over the resume. He laughed and dramatically threw her resume on a chair. I had purposefully witheld her picture at the time, and at that moment decided to have a little fun. The applicant had submitted a full-length photo that demonstrated how she made up for what was lacking in her resume. When my boss's back was turned, I picked up the resume, and placed it on the pile of rejected applications, but with the photo on top. Not less than two minutes later, my boss walked by and as soon as he saw the photo, he grabbed it and said, "Who is this?" I told him it was the woman we had just discussed. He then spent the next five minutes trying to get me to call her again to find some way that she would be able to work there. The whole incident was quite comical.
About a week later, I spent even longer trying to convince him that we should offer a job to an applicant with an MA in Linguistics from Harvard, in spite of the fact that she was Kyopo.
All that to say, don't send a resume, just a picture. |

Oops.
(I'm trying to get my "good" photo off of my laptop, but it's proving to be a pain in the ass.) |
