Is airfare a contractual matter or immigration requirement for someone with a E-2 visa? I thought I read somewhere that your sponsor was responsible for you leaving Korea and had to post a bond with your return ticket money with immigration.

I ask this because this was in a contract I was sent.

As at January 2013, Private Academy owners are no longer obligated to provide a return ticket.

It has always been a contractual matter until you need to be deported (as in physically removed from the country) - then immigration will go after the sponsor for the cost.

If your employer put that into the contract then I would suggest that you look for a new employer.

It is (as ttom said) a contractual matter. There are no legal obligations or immigration requirements that force an employer to provide airfare.

It is an employment benefit offered by employers and part of your work agreement (contract).

So this is obviously a false statement.
Did they really think I wouldn't check?

This just sounds like a school policy.

If you do not like it (I would understand why too!!) then move on to another offer that includes airfare. there are lots out there.

Yes, they really thought you wouldn't check. Most Koreans wouldn't check so many Koreans believe nobody would check even if you aren't Korean.
