So, I got KT to unlock my phone, and they sent me a text saying I had to put in another SIM and sync to iTunes to complete the unlock. So, after trying to find a non-KT sim from friends, I went and spent 50 bucks on an SK one, and plonked it in, expecting to get a "No Service" message, and then have to sync it to get the "Congratulations, you're unlocked" thing in Apple. As soon as I put the SK card in, I got connected to SK.
Am I unlocked? I don't want to restore if I don't have to, as I'm jailbroken on 5.1.1, and don't want to redo my phone in the next few days in iOS 6.
Everything would suggest it's unlocked. I'm travelling for 7 months without my computer though, and I don't want to find out in Indonesia that I have an expensive iPod, rather than a phone I can plop a SIM into. I guess I'm kinda worried this is some sort of "Korean carrier" thing, and as soon as I put a foreign SIM in it won't work.
Anybody have experience with this? |

I had my iphone 4 unlocked this past summer when I went back to the State. What I did was have KT unlock it, then when I went to the US i put in a pre-paid AT&T sim card in there, and synced with iTunes. On the computer it had some message like "This phone is now unlocked".
With current versions of iOS i'm not sure if you still have to sync with iTunes to complete the process or not.
I also noticed that you are in the buy sell trade forum looking for a sim card. I have the one from att still, but I don't want to give it up. Depending on where you live i could let you use it and you could bring your laptop or whatever to sync with iTunes. But all in all, I think that wouldn't be necessary. If KT said it's unlocked I doubt that it'll be a problem once you get to another country. |

I got one unlocked before but didnt get the Unlock message from Itunes when I synched it. Of course it worked fine in Southeast Asia and turned out to be unlocked.
As long as KT took down your IMEI and did the work on their end then you should be fine. One question though, did you go into one of their main stores like the Itaewon branch or did you actually call them to help you with it? |
