I have been responding to some of the job adverts on Dave's and WorknPlay but I don't receive much in the way of response. I have sent around 30 CVs to different organisations and I don't tend to get any reply. At the end of the day, I feel like that a hagwon will find me too over qualified or experienced. Here is the background:

a. I have a CELTA, DELTA and an MA.
b. Over seven years experience in East Europe, Korea and the UK.
c. F2 or F6 Visa (returning resident).
d. Returning to Korea in September 2013.

I started receiving the usual spam after uploading my CV on WorknPlay and this settled down a bit after a while but I respond to some really interesting jobs which I feel would be a great fit but nothing. I suppose the fact that I am organising my family's return to Korea in September (which is still a number of months away), that recruiters or schools are not interested.

Am I worrying that I am over qualified? I would be keen to secure employment with an International School or University but I have heard that they recruit in the country most of the time. I am just keeping my fingers crossed but I am starting to worry that I am pricing myself out of the market and I have to choose what not to include from my academic achievements, etc.

Any insight or experience in this would be wonderful.

You do realize that properly (internationally) accredited international schools can't hire you without QTS due to their accreditation?

It is also off-season for uni job hiring (except perhaps for unigwons).

Timing is everything and if you are looking at a Sept return then yours is way off.

Cheers Ttompatz. Just starting to realise the great undertaking required. Perhaps it is best to get a job to buy the time until the March 2014 recruitment drive for Unis. I will be at the International Korea TESOL conference this October so I am looking forward to networking.

With regards to International Schools: I am on the lookout for EAL positions and at the most in private schools in the UK, you don't need to be QTS just hold an MA. Thus, hoping to find a similar position to the UK.

Finally, I received word from a previous colleague of mine in Korea and he mentioned that things are quite dry in Korea at the moment and there are no real jobs around. I am starting to wonder whether the whole situation is a bit of a shot in the foot, but things in the UK are a bed of roses.

The problem is you're applying way too early.

Those are outstanding qualifications. Not many people have both a CELTA and DELTA and a master's degree.

But is your M.A. related to education or language learning and teaching?

Unfortunately, Korean professors don't know anything about CELTA and DELTA teacher training and so it's unlikely to benefit you much in terms of getting hired in countries like Taiwan, Japan or Korea.

Cheers all for you replies. I am possibly too early to apply for positions but I prefer to get things organised. Just the person I am.

For those interested, I took my MA in ELT and was able to combine a TEFL-Q course as part of a module. All good fun and got a Merit for my teaching practice.

And you're moving to -Korea-?
I have far less experience than some of the other posters here, but I'll add that I've never heard of someone being hired for anything that far in advance in this country.
