What's the usual tuition for expat kids schooling in Korea? Is it still really high?

Depends on the school.... public, private or international.
International schools are very high.
Public schools are near free.
Private schools run the gamut in between.

That's pretty much the standard tuition for all international schools. |

Nope.
There are public schools where kids with foreign parents can attend.
They are very nearly free.
The language of instruction for most classes is still Korean.

KIS ( http://www.kis.or.kr/admission/adm04.asp ) in Bundang is about the same.

Korean parents are paying 24 mil to get kids into classrooms with English speaking teachers, but the Korea public school system is pulling out NESs from the public school classrooms...
Admittedly, the international school facilities and teachers are top notch. It is still odd that Korea is moving to end the NES program, already in place, when Korean parents are paying huge money to get kids into schools so they can have English speaking teachers. |

but therein is the catch...
Not just English speaking teachers....
QUALIFIED, EXPERIENCED, LICENSED English speaking teachers, international accreditation (IBO, WASC, etc), international standards and top notch facilities.
99% of PS NETs don't have a hope or a prayer of making the grade.
Apples and Oranges.

I'm thinking of teaching in Korea but I don't know what to do with my son going into Grade 4. Are there private schools that provide this schooling?
What do private schools teach (or just language)?
What are some examples I could check out?

If you are a qualified teacher (k-12) and land a job in an international school then family support/tuition are usually part of the remuneration package.
If you are looking at entry level EFL jobs then no. There is NO assistance for family and you are on your own for the education of any children.
Home schooling is an option if there are 2 of you. Daycare / evening care for a child who does not speak Korean will be a nightmare.
Private schools may have more English time but they are still Korean schools (NOT to be confused with hagwons - private, after school language academies or kinder/elementary language centers) and the primary language of instruction is still Korean. |

If you're coming to teach in an international school, then you will get free tuition for him. If you're coming to teach ESL, then you could send him to a private international school for about the same cost as your yearly salary before tax.
He would receive an education as good as or better than the one that he would have received at home.

If your son attends international school and you do not work in that school, about 100% of your salary will go to pay your child's tuition. Essentially you'll be working for nothing.
I know teachers with kids who left Korea for this very reason. They had the choice of spending all of their salary on international school or go back to America, send the kids to school for free and be a stay at home mom. |

It's not just the language, Korean parents are getting getting their kids out of the Korean govt. curriculum. |
