|
|
EDIT 2: I have a state apostilled (not DoS, Virginia Sec of State) CBC and Diploma. Are these still being accepted by Korea for hagwon positions?
I got my CBC and it is notarized and apostilled by my state but my recruiter is saying that she thinks there is something wrong. I never wrote Please provide an FBI seal and signature from a Division Officer for the purpose of obtaining a Federal Apostille. when I got my CBC but it is sealed and signed by the section chief of the criminal justice information services division. Is it possible that I'm missing something? I'm really worried.
Just to be completely clear... This was the process I used.
Apply for CBC as normal. (No special requests)
Have the cbc it notarized by a state notary
Have the cbc apostilled by the Virginia secretary of state
Thank you!
EDIT: She is saying that Korea does not accept STATE apostilles anymore. I read that this is true for public schools but is it true for hagwons as well? |

An apostille is an apostille. It's legally an internationally-recognized document. You're likely okay, but it's really up to the immigration officer. Say nothing? |

You would think. I have read that for public school positions you can't use the State issued apostille for you CBC but I can't find anything about it for hagwons. |

Korea agreed to recognize apostilled documents as being valid when they signed a certain treaty. What would be the point of state apostilles if they are not legally binding? |

I get what you guys are saying but I found this on another website.

This is to inform you an important policy for U.S applicants.
While the Notarized photocopy of their Diploma can be Apostilled at the State level, the S.M.O.E [Seoul Metro Office of Education] requires all FBI Criminal Record Checks to be Apostilled by the Department of State in Washington D.C only.
Please make sure U.S applicants for SMOE get FBI Criminal Record Checks to be Apostilled by the Department of State in Washington D.C.
Yours Sincerely,

Has anyone ever run into a problem when they were unable to get a hagwon job using a state apostille? |

SMOE, perhaps, but immigration? Immigration should legally recognize the legitimacy of an apostille, no matter what the level. My state apostille wouldn't do my FBI check, however. Not many still do. I'm surprised that you were able to. If you can, it may just be better to fedex it to DC and have them fedex it back using your account (easy to set up and link to your credit card.) It's what I did, and it only took a couple of weeks. |
