I have met both black and white South Africans teaching English in South Korea. The reality is: they're here teaching English. The ones I know have all stayed more than 1 year.
Three or four were at my orientation. I have gotten to know another four through occasional interaction in social groups on different occasions. I know various others.
Do a utoob search for GIC Talk. That channel for a social group in just one city shows some presentations by South Africans. |

Other than Canadians and Americans, I think the next biggest group of teachers is from SA. you should be fine. |

There are PLENTY of South Africans in Korea now.
The numbers have really exploded in the last 4-5 years. I remember in 2007-2008, I would go to a bar and I'd be the only Saffa there, now at least 25% are Saffas.
Korea has somewhat filled the void after the UK cancelled the working holiday visas. It's one of the best options for working-holiday type Gap year, and with our currency falling through the floor, the money isn't half bad either.
There's also a pretty diverse group, old and young, and all different races. Lots of Afrikaners here too. If English isn't your first language, just tell them it is, they won't be able to tell the difference (I've met a few real shockers who can barely communicate in English!).
Lastly, be careful dealing with SA based recruiters, from what I've heard, they're pretty sleazy and often charge their applicants fees (The applicant should never pay the recruiter). Just cause they're South African doesn't mean they're doing you any favours (though, I'm sure there are exceptions).
Just remember, as a demographic South Africans aren't the most popular. Employers far prefer to hire N.Americans. With the job market here being pretty tight, it will count against you, so you may need to take a less than ideal position to get your foot in the door. |

Shouldn't be a problem if they don't have both their lower legs, no handgun, and no fear of danger from break ins. |
