Big Fan of WBC. I just wish that the best American players were allowed to participate. this would get more people watching it. |

Netherlands ain't too shabby thanks to their Caribbean territories.
Also, a Korean friend of mine who is an expert on baseball was none-too optimistic about Team Korea's chances this year. Apparently they've had a significant talent drop off. |

Yeah, I should have added that they get the majority of their players from Curacao. It isn't like they just lost to France. |

The best American players are allowed to participate. Many of them just don't want to. |

Korea still has a lot of talent on their team. The only big talent not on the team is Ryu but they still have many experienced pitchers. Considering they have 3 first basemen alone that hit well over .300 last season plus at least two more players on their starting line up that hit over .300 last season. Most of this years players played in the previous Asian Games so they have international experience.
The loss to the Netherlands was a needed wake up call. They should have won that game or at made it closer. The coach made a huge mistake of not pulling Lee Dae Ho and putting in Lee Sung Yeop. The 4 errors was amateur league ball and the batting was worse than the cages in Gangnam at 11pm on a Friday night.
Catman, good point. They are allowed to play but don't. They need to do the same as basketball and get inspired to make a Dream Team.
I am really glad Dickey is on the team again. I want to see the player's reaction to his knuckle ball. That thing is truly a beast. |

Korea sucked and choked. Nothing new there.
Are the locals blaming the tie breaker rules on why they're eliminated? |

They are blaming the manager. Apparently he took big name players but not exactly the best talent. He left the KBL homerun and rbi leader from last year off the team. He also left the best 3rd baseman in the league at home as well. Games are won on the field not on paper. Better luck in 4 years Korea. |

There was an article on Naver sports news yesterday bemoaning the new rules for ruining the spirit of the game, but they also acknowledged the poor display against the Netherlands and admitted that Korea didn't deserve to progress after that result. |

Yeah, that team was an abomination. In these kinds of tourneys, you want defense, defense, defense first. And a high OBP, good base-running, NL style of ball. Especially with every team being "groggy" at the start of the season.
And the Korean dude was a pansy for not Ray Fossieing the Taiwanese catcher on that play at the plate.
But I agree that some of the rules are seriously whack. Watching at the bottom of the 8th a graphic flashing "Taiwan Advances to Next Round" just seemed contrary to the spirit of baseball. They should just do a pure playoff format. Best 2/3 For the first round of 16, reshuffle at 8 and do single elimination until the finals and have the finals be best 2/3. |

I always pull for korea.
I should have written that Ameican players are discouraged from playing by their agents and teams.
that is not an excuse but the presence of stars would help the Classic become more popular. |
