Why would that be humour?
Dentists will wiggle a patients cheek to reduce the pain from giving a shot, same principle applies here, the movement and slap makes the shot much more tolerable. |

are you speaking from personal experience? i worked in a drop in clinic for 3 years administrating inter muscular injections, predominately in the glutes. I was specifically told never to slap people. I also worked in phlebotomy for a while, was told never to slap people there, either. Maybe your experiences have been different? |

The experience of having it done to me by dentists in the west yes.
the slap might be unnecessary, but the slap will stun the nerves for a brief moment, and the rubbing will have the same effect.
They obviously feel the patients here are a little more sensitive to needle pricks than in other countries

getting back to the OP, the reason we were 'trained' not to slap people was in case it was misconstrued as being sexual, and the fact that it is an out of date method of administering inter muscular medication. Find me some peer reviewed research that contradicts that, and not your opinion and Ill make sure I write to the trust I worked for and tell them about it.
The patients always rubbed the area the needle is inserted to themselves after excess has been rubbed away with cotton. So Doing that as a practitioner is a little unnecessary. |

There is no need to smack for a IM injection. In fact, I've found it's better to relax or calm the muscle before injecting.
Oh, and cleaning the site is also a must - slapping it would just dirty it again. |

I've had about 15 of those needles in the arse while in Korea at different places.
Each time, the K-girl nurse rubbed and slapped my ass.
Dear Watson! Logic dictates that all Korean nurses must be perverts, or I've got an irresistible arse.

The last time I got a check up in Seoul, I passed out for some unknown reason. I woke up, and my glutes and 똥꼬 were completely sore.

Although compared to western countries their salaries are low http://www.indeed.com/salary/q-Physician-l-Korea,-VA.html
Still a very decent wage. From my experience with very few exceptions, doctors in just about every country are in the upper middle class salary for that country generally.
In industrialized, G20 nations they make a very good living generally, Korea being one of them. |
