I'm looking for the best Jung-sik (정식) restaurant in Seoul. A restaurant with a mega assortment of the tastiest, freshest dishes. Any suggestions? I don't want anything modern or fusion-y, just the best, classic-style jung-sik. I'm willing to try a few places.

I've eaten at a few, all were good, but mediocre. I'm sure this city has top-shelf Jung-sik somewhere.

Jung sik is a type of Korean food/restaurant where there is a set menu for one price. It's when they just keep bringing out an assortment of main dishes and side dishes. Maybe the Korean equivalent of prix fixe.

Get out of Seoul for jeongsik. The best jeongsik in Korea is at a place called HyangNaMu SikDang in the little bitty town of Suanbo in ChungcheongBuk-Do. Though being a couple hours and a bus transfer out of town, it's not exactly somewhere you can pop off to for a quick bite.

I love posts like this. First, of course, is the accessiblity factor. Then there's the unstated claim that the poster has eaten at every jungsik restaurant in Korea.

I didn't say your claim was false. But since you want to make an issue of it, name all the jungsik restaurants, say in a small area, for example Inge-dong Suwon.

Dodging and weaving--will he score?

So how about a list of the important ones. Since jungsik restaurants are plentiful, I'd guess a list of 100 would suffice. I'm sure the OP would appreciate it.

There is a jung sik restaurant in Shinsa called Jungsik Dang (정식당). The name gets to the point. They also have a location in New York City. As may guess, it is a very upscale, gourmet Korean restaurant, but the lunch tasting course menu is only 40,000 won per person. The restaurant has been featured in both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal as a great restaurant, so I would say it is worth a look. Here is the website:

Agree with the overall point you're making in this thread, but damn! 100? Name all the jeongsik restaurants in Inge-dong? Damn! Love some of these ridiculous "prove your point" requests that get posted on an innocuous message board.

Why not go light, like the top 5 jeongsik restaurants in Korea? Or stick with the original point of the thread, ask for the best in Seoul?
