Hello, and thanks to all who can contribute.
Is anyone able to comment on the projector market in South Korea?
Price, availability, reviews?
I want to find a projector for use in the classroom. I'm trying to find the best combination of low cost with reasonably high quality (aren't we all). |

Get a 50" plasma.
Less worry.
Easy to hook up to a PC (VGA, HDMI, LAN, USB).
No bulbs to replace.
Better picture. No light issues (you can see it with the lights still turned on).
Relatively speaking, cheap.
You can get overlays to turn it into a "smart board" at a later point if desired.

a 50 plasma would cost way more than a classroom quality projector and you have to worry about it taking up a bunch of space and kids destroying it. a classroom projector would be small, light, and could be mounted onto the ceiling. with current bulb tech you could go years and years without replacing it.
if you need a big picture, a high lumen educational projector isn't too expensive, at least in america. i'm not sure about here in korea, although i suggest checking out gmarket and danawa.
oh a side note, i highly recommend a home theatre projector to anyone who's ever thought about it. i can't recommend them enough. i used to use a 1080p triple lcd home theatre projector on an 89" draper screen and it blew any tv out of the water at double the size. watching planet earth on bluray was like being right there. |

I'm particularly interested in LED projectors to avoid constant bulb replacement. I've learned that a bulb can run between one or two hundred dollars. Depending on how often the projector is used, one could end up replacing these bulbs nearly every other year (give or take).
LED bulbs claim to last up to 20,000 hours. Compare that to the traditional bulb style which typically lives for 2, 3, 4, or 5 thousand hours. Therefore, I'd like to invest in something which doesn't require the constant maintenance.
I recently purchased an Optoma PT-105 on Amazon, but when it arrived the VGA connection was faulty - the projector would not recognize the laptop. I exhausted all avenues of fixing the problem after countless hours of research. I am deciding to get the refund while I can.
Time is ticking down to my arrival, and it seems that obtaining a projector in my price range while stateside is looking bleak.
The portability of the projector is very attractive to me. I can take it wherever I go and blast the picture onto anything. It seems suited to the traveling ESL teacher lifestyle, whether it's for entertainment or class presentations.
But I understand the Plasma recommendation too. Definitely a benefit given that there will never be a lighting issue. If kept in good condition, a decent plasma/lcd/etc TV can easily be resold if one ever has to pack their bags and move on to another location. At this time, I don't know much about smartboard capabilities. |

Projectors are freakishly expensive in Korea. I keep wanting to upgrade my LG projector to something HD (it's XGA) but can't justify the cost.
All the LED lamp projectors don't have great light output, in a classroom you're really going to have to be able to block incoming light. I used to live on the 5th floor in my building with almost no light and my projector was amazing, now I'm on 13 and can barely watch it during the day with blinds shut! They're horrible blinds and whoever bought them is an idiot IMO but just be careful if you're going LED. |

I have a home theater LG HD projector (720) I bought 2 years ago. Use it pretty frequently for movies and my PS3. The projector itself I got off Gmarket for about 800,000 I believe. So far the bulb is still going strong. |
