I have a good amount of Korean teaching experience, but am having trouble getting replies from anybody and that includes recruiters. Ideas? Is the market overrun?

Before loads of people jump in and say it's becasue you're too expensive/Koreans fear experience (they'll struggle to boss you around) ect ect.....

LOOK AT YOURSELF!

Is your CV well laid out/up to date?

Nice photo in a suit? Neck up?

How are you selling yourself?

What have you learn't since you've been in Korea? Have you done any professional delevopment? Have you got refrences 'in hand' from old work places?

Are you sounding desperate (no one likes that!).............

I have not taken any courses or anything to boost my credentials although it was my intention to do so. ( Reasons for mine not doing so being available to you via PM if you so desire. )

Everything else seems alright, but you are correct as far as self analysis goes. I suppose a more careful review of my docs is in order.

Korean employers are intimidated by skills and experience.

The hiring scene here is a kind of darwinian survival of the dumbest.

A process by which all effective educators who can actually make a difference to this country's english level are sifted out and selected against.

The two most recent ads I saw:

Quote:
Need female native caucasian who has E-2 or F 2 visa...Not english people is ok if she got married Korean man who can speak english very well.

and
Quote:
I want to learn English.

I can pay 50,000won per hour.

Female teacher is preffered.

Please email me with your resume, recent photo, and phone number.

Thank you.

Just say it, you want to pay for a tutor that only looks good that may eventually date. Why would needing a photo factor into your decision to learn English?

As an employer I don't care that you intended to upgrade your credentials, I care only about what you have to offer. In your time in Korea have you learned to speak a modicum of Korean?

There are good jobs to be had if you have the qualifications. Maybe it's time to enroll in a CELTA or, heck, maybe start an online MA.

If you believe that, what does that say about you.

Remember, all you need is one GOOD reply to get a job. Forget the numbers. Go for one good match.
