With Park Geun Hye promising to crack down on the black economy and hagwons generally struggling is it time to start demanding security deposits from employers.

We could even classify the deposit required by the following:

Allows credit check, no debt, owns building and chain name doesn't start with 'W'-No deposit

Large chain, paid airfare - 1 weeks wage
Large chain, no airfare - 1 months wage
Other hagwon chain name doesn't start with 'W' - 2 months wages
Hagwon chain name begins with 'W' - 3 months wages

Shocked

With US refugees, er ... E2 applicants still crawling out of the woodwork like roaches in your favorite Chinese kitchen that will work about as well as a lead balloon. Laughing

Who does this golden goose think he is lol. You aren't anything special--you are a warm body that speaks English and can replaced at the drop of a hat. You have no leverage in this matter. At all.

I don't get it. Who signs contracts with the top shifty hagwon chains? I sign with supposedly decent ones and still scratch my head.

I'd guess that most are people who have done little or no research into the country. The others are maybe hoping that it works out as nothing else is being offered.

If you're the latter, choose another country or head to the sticks. There are plenty of alternatives that would work out better.

It will be pure comedy seeing an applicant demand a credit check from a potential employer and then be shocked & outraged when said employer simple moves to next non-demented applicant that does not have an overly inflated sense of self-importance.
