LanguageCast is a language exchange group that originated from the great group at TalktomeinKorean.com in Seoul. Last year we started a Language Cast branch in Seomyeon, but now we are starting a meeting in PNU every Friday at 6:30 pm at J Square cafe. We will have an after party at Thirsty Moose, where ladies can get 3 free drinks.
Come meet new people, hang out with other polyglots and practice speaking other languages! Hope to meet some of you there!

This is not a language exchange. It is a social event in English.
To be honest, a few other nationalities show up to meet other people from their own country. But the Koreans are almost all interested in English and they make up most of the people there. |

It is whatever you make it. Yes, it is very easy to go there and end up just speaking English. But its also easy to do that when you're in a small group of Koreans, or during any interactions with Koreans, because thats the natural inclination.
You just have to put in some effort, make it known to everyone you are only trying to speak in your target language, and people always respect that.
I don't know if you've been to Language Cast Busan, but you can easily see people separating themselves into smaller groups and doing serious studying. I'm talking notebooks, pencils, and good productive conversations.
I also like to go in with a few specific questions I have for native speakers and a few sentence structures I'd like to practice. Every time I do that, I've walked away feeling like I either have a better grasp on certain sentence structures, or I've learned new useful phrases.
Like with anything, you can't just show up and expect magic to happen. If the intention is there, its more likely to happen.
Some weeks I do take a break though and just socialize.
We're also working on getting a more diverse crowd at the PNU branch. Lots of int'l students, so I'm hopeful. I'd love to practice my arabic. |
