Hello guys I tried to search the web but it's not very helpful so I figured I'll ask here... Anyone know of any clubs or club districts in Tokyo or Japan that had a similar atmosphere to hongdae? Less foreigners and more locals but enough foreigners so that me and my 3 friends of Canada who will visit Asia this summer not feel too weird. Hongdae is good because all 4 of us are fresh out of college and so the hongdae crowd is perfect for us. We also are all Chinese Canadians so a place that caters specifically for girls looking to hook up with a foreigner really won't help us whatsoever lol please help us out! Thanks a bunch ^_^

With clubs, do you mean with live music?
Maybe you mean Shibuya, in Tokyo.

There is Shimo-Kitazawa, and it has clubs and a mellow atmosphere.

What I mean is like...


Hongdae is a club district of Korea right beside one of the bigger universities here.

The atmosphere is mostly all young people, some kids sneaking in as highschool and mostly university aged people. Older people do come along such as myself who can pass for university aged people but most of the people who go to the clubs are local and attractive and young. The only people who don't obey the age rule are the foreigners because someone's age isn't so important to non-koreans.

Anyway, what I'm looking for is basically a large number of bars nearby each other with different nightclubs all together in one location. But instead of looking online because most of the places found are not local clubs or bars but more for international guests, I wanted a place with more of a local "feel" to them. We know where to look for international night life but for more local night life, that's what I'd like to know.

I don`t think it is the same, but I guess what I mentioned is ok.
Shimo-Kitazawa has bars although they are not next to each other.
There is live music there.

I think music is performed in various places, just like decent bars are scattered.

Shinjuku has a place called Golden Gai, but the crowd is older.

Maybe Jiyugaoka or Kichijoji for drinking.
Young people go there.

Maybe on the Chuo Line - places like Ogikubo, Koenji.

I would say Shibuya is one of the better places in Tokyo for clubs and nightlife. I'd call it a mix of Insadong and Hongdae on steroids.

Bars here in Tokyo tend to not be like in the US.
People tend to eat and drink.
Izakayas are places with alcohol and food, but not much food has to be ordered.

Shibuya is where the young tend to go, but it is big enough for other age groups too.

I prefer places like Naka-Meguro or Kichijoji, since they aren't as crowded.
Lots of bars in Kichijoji, which is the hub of western Tokyo.
