Hi folks. I'm sure this has been discussed many times here, but I can't get the search function to work properly and I've already scrawled through tons of posts without little success.

I'm thinking about study here for a year or two. I don't have anything particular in mind. I have an undergrad in the humanities and I'm interested in doing a post-graduate course in some kind of humanities field.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of or has done any courses here that are run in English. I'm aware of the SKY schools, but I'm thinking of something a little more low key and less expensive, and also because my GPA isn't great and I porbably wouldn't get accepted to those schools anyway.

So yeah, any schools that run courses in the humanities: politics, history, philosophy, sociology, Korean studies, International Relations, etc... and which are taught through English.

Any help at all appreciated.

Cheers in advance

Asian Studies at Sejong is a very cost effective option if you want an English-taught MA in Seoul and aren't too fussy about the school. I went in to see what was what a couple of years ago, wasn't right for me but seemed like a reasonable setup.

You have to pass an Asian language test (most do Korean, but Japanese or Chinese also possible) by the end to graduate. Not sure what level you actually need to attain. They're not going to turn native speakers away on account of their undergrad GPA.

Even at universities other than SKY universities, many of the classes would be taught in English, in particular business related fields. I'm in my final semester of grad studies in International Commerce at a university down south..and I'd say 80% of the classes I took were in English...and even the ones that were lectured in Korean used English Language textbooks/material.

As another poster said, typically one needs to have a certain proficiency in Korean to enter a program that isnt a GSIS program. Having said that..it is possible to be allowed to enter without the proficency and take Korean language classes alongside your other classes. There is another American in my department who entered with literally NO Korean ability...although it should be mentioned that particular American had done a semester here at the university while a senior at his university back in the states.

Also note that outside of GSIS programs and business-related fields, the possibility of English-language lectures drops dramatically.

it's never late to go back to school, besides life has many twists and turns. You should totally go for it.
Btw what's SKY?
S for SNU, K for KAIST, and Y for Yonsei?

K for Korea University. They are the best 3 general universities. KAIST is engineering only and in the cesspool of filth that is Daejeon.
