Hello,

I'm an european student, I have already been to Korea for 1 year (as part of an exchange program with my undergrad business school).

As I want to pursue my studies with a masters degree in International Business, I have applied to some Graduate Schools of International Studies (GSIS): SKY + Sogang (actually I don't really want to go to Sogang, it was my spare wheel).

After my M.A. in International Business, I'd like to join a foreign company present in Korea.

I have already had an interview with Seoul National University and I'm now waiting for the admission results.

Point is, I still have hesitations about studying in Korea.

I know that these schools (SKY univs) are prestigious in Korea (and in Asia as well), but I don't know much about their recognition by companies (especially foreign companies). Plus, I have read several alumni testimonials from these universities, but I didn't find an accurate answer to my question; as many of them integrated non-profit organizations or pursued with a PhD.

More directly, my question would be:
How is it to get a job (in the business sector) after a M.A. in a Korean GSIS?

The only comment I will make, as a GSIS student myself, is there are jobs out there, contacts you make through school and internships etc are key. Anyone who tells you they are crap and you won't get a job is probably in a field completely unrelated to having a Master's from a GSIS..

In an other hand, how is it to find a job within a korean company once you graduated from a local top university?

I'm considering this future possibility as well, but I don't speak Korean (yet; to be positive), do you think it is possible to make it?

First off, you'd be angling for an MBA, not an MA, if you want to go into a corporate job. And have to agree with CrikeyKorea: one thing you'd definitely want to research before deciding on attending a SKY GSIS would be their ability to place you in a quality internship. You can also research their post-grad employment stats. Why leave it to conjecture and chance?

Second, if you don't speak Korean 'yet', I hate to break it to you, but you won't be speaking it all that much better by the end of your graduate studies here.

The upside is that you're asking questions NOW. Two years of grad school is over before you know it. These are issues you need to get settled before you even start. Best of luck to you.

They have a career centre, and all that, but really there are decent jobs, all depending on your major. internships really are the key, and to be honest Korean language skills are, for obvious reasons, quite desirable...

I had a friend who was working in a shipping country in Jongno, and another as a salesman (for more than 7 years) only one had Korean skills- not all that great though.

I don't really know of many who got jobs here who didn't at least have intermediate or higher Korean- and as PRagic mentioned about Korean skills, mine have definitely declined since I started...
