| My friend just got back from the airport and says the whole airport is flooded with foreigners (mostly students and elderly people) and Koreans trying to get out. There are people everywhere. You can't even get inside the departure terminals. |
I would think that if there were a massive exodus out of the country, we would have heard about it either through the media or elsewhere, like blogs. There'd be a buzz.
That the airport is busy is not evidence. How does your friend know why those people are at the airport? Did he interview them? How does he know it's not normally that busy this time of year at whatever time of day he was there?
Without evidence this is just conjecture. |
It's all over man. The judgment day hath come. I'm gonna go ride my silver pony home, ditchin this sinking ship! ...
Seriously though, I hope nothing happens because I think if the bombs DO DROP I'm gonna go back home... and I really don't want to. |
If the bombs drop, what sort of priority do you imagine evacuating foreigners is going to be? If the bombs drop...it will be over quick for many of us. The distance between Nork weapons and Seoul is quite short. If you think the status of life here on a normal day is chaotic and unfair...where do you place your odds during a national crisis like being carpet bombed by the North? |

I'll be hunkered down in my place eating canned beans, drinking bottled water, and lighting candles with the blinds pulled out riding out the storm. Me thinks it'd be more dangerous trying to get out than just hunkering down.... |

It's difficult to tell how serious you guys in South Korea are actually taking this threat amidst all the sarcasm! So for someone like me, a total newbie who just recently joined Dave's to try to figure out which country I want to go to, should I assume this sarcasm implies unconcern?
*Also, first post, so hello everybody!* |

Foreigners tend to take it more seriously than Koreans apparently. Koreans don't have time for this nonsense, cuts into drinking time. |

... yeah but if we assume they nuked right in the center of Seoul with their strongest tested nuclear weapon yet... this is what it would look like:

I know somebody that has left.
I've only been here for 3 weeks and the person in question had been here for 6 months and was really enjoying herself.
She left yesterday because her parents put the pressure on as they were going demented with worry.
Bad times. |

This kind of thing will rattle newbies. Yeah, after 6 months some can still be a newbie. |

I thought there would have been a bigger blast radius. That looks like a little blip on the radar screen. |
