It might be...I know some of the big willie food bloggers were promoting Burger B pretty heavily a few years ago. I thought the burgers are pretty good but by the time you add fries and a drink you're in the 15K territory which IMO is too much.

Yea Neely's, Neely's Interstate, and Rendevous aren't on Beale.

I was always a fan of Pig N' Whistle and The Commissary (in Germantown). I know Neely's has more national renown, but I really was never that impressed. Never been to Rendezvous.

Corky's and Huey's are both chains Memphis can be proud of.

Yep, and thus the source of its lameness.

10 Magazine did a short write-up with an address but no map.

http://10mag.com/new-restaurant-opening-real-tennessee-barbeque-at-beale-st/

And just cause it was mentioned, here's ZenKimchi's write-up for Burger B. I haven't been there in a while but I don't remember it being as cheap as he says. Seems like everytime I went for a specialty burger, fries, and maybe a beer I dropped at least a couple man-wons, with all the service charges.

Is this restaurant run by someone who knows the authetic taste? Pictures don't tell you anything. It's the taste that counts.

I forgot about Pig N' Whistle. I hope, in the next week or so, I can get there to test it out.

Pig and whistle is great. But Neely's is awesome. I talked to old man neely who started the joint once. Quite a character. There is a joint out in West memphis, cant remember the name , a real hole in the wall, but maybe the best bar b cue in the world. It is fairly well known aroud memphis. The name is on the tip of my tongue.

For anyone still needing a map:
http://map.naver.com/local/siteview.nhn?code=31695569

It's about a five-minute walk north of Sangsu Station on line 6.

Memphis and the whole Mississippi River flood plain are littered with hole in the wall places. In my neck of the woods we've got a guy named Chicken George that barbeques out of a make shift trailer at the only red light in town. Man, is it good.

It might be...

It is, I remember the silver tin can things from the zenkimchi link you posted after. It was/is more expensive than what it's worth, like you said.

I want some more info on this BBQ joint. I don't know where Son Deureo! is from, but I thought he was English, so if he is, I nullify his opinion. Very Happy Can anyone who was raised around S. BBQ or someone who hasn't been in Korea for a decade plus and had their taste buds mutilated by the disgusting local "cuisine" here throw out an opinion?

I'm not British, I'm from Buffalo, NY and I did my undergrad in Ohio. Probably not that much better so far as sussing out authentic Southern BBQ than a Brit, but I'd definitely recommend giving it a try next time you're in Hongdae. I honestly don't know how it would hold up against Memphis BBQ, but I doubt you'll find better in Korea.

I talked with the owner for a bit, he's Korean but he went to culinary school at Cornell, and fell in love with the BBQ joints in the small towns in upstate NY and thought it would do well in Seoul because Koreans love meat so much. The place was packed with a mixed crowd, and everyone I talked to there was raving about the food just as much as I was so the guy's definitely doing something right.

Thanks, and sorry for assuming you were from the other side Wink. I live on the six line so hongdae/sangsu is a small step away and I'll be checking that out soon. I'd like to see their menu and see what else besides ribs are on offer as far as BBQ goes. Dry rub ribs are definitely different than the BBQ sauced down, fall off the bone style they serve in most of the southern US, but I can appreciate both. The 10 mag write up pictures on the place left me a little confused to be honest, and I got a Koreanization of southern BBQ vibe from it. I'd be happy to be disappointed about my ignorant interpretation. Cool

You're not alone. 10 started out as an OK concept (ie various top ten lists of things in Korea) but has now denigrated into a glorified advertisement rag. You gotta take everything you see in it with a grain of salt. Groove is a bit better, but the expat community is still in need of a good rag.

let me google that for you

When I made this post, the only thing I could find by using GOOGLE was the 10 mag article. I was hoping to find a facebook page or website, or directions to their place, which is why I wrote the post in the first place ... YES, after using google.

Last time I went to Burger B, they raised the price. They make good burgers but I doubt I will be visiting them often. Beale St is right above it but I haven't been there yet. There's plenty of Korean blog posts about it but I can't say how good it really is.
