I always bow as well as wave now. It probably looks a bit dumb.

I tend to gaze unabashedly at anyone on the subway.

I also breathe down peoples necks until they get the message I want them to move out the way.

I've caught myself not holding the door for people behind me. I try to be more aware. The best part is when I hold it open and nobody holds it after me, so I become a doorman. This is when I slam the door in to whoever is walking through it.

I'm still myself. I don't bow (if I do it is very slight, like a nod), I don't see people to the door when they leave and refuse to sit on the floor for dinner.
I'm an alpha damn it! No sell out here.

LOL.

Although I have learned to speak relatively fluent Korean over 5 years, I never speak Korean at work. I refuse to suckered into speaking Korean at work. I force them to speak English to me as I enjoy telling them to repeat what they said over and over. And while doing so they get more and more nervous with stutter. Then they are place in their rightful pecking order.... Razz

I also do what I want and when I want to. If it bothers them, I still play cultural ignorance card then do it again. If I'm told about it again, I tell them it my habit and the American way.

When I visit home I'm always puzzled when the waiter tries to make small talk with me. I think I come across as a nut.

When driving if the guy behind me honks his horn, I don't care.

Last Saturday, I was in Seoul and I noticed a foreign guy walking hand in hand with a very pretty Korean woman and I felt jealous.

And there's nothing much you can do as you stand there next to your wife like a little boy holding his mommy's hand, emasculated, because she has to do all the talking.

Although this may not apply to you because you may actually know more Korean than I do.

Even our rare breed allow certain situations to override our status as alpha. We ALLOW being the key word here.

Enough with it now.

Ha, this is one of the funniest things I've ever read on Dave's!

OP - are you going to ban your wife from speaking Korean to your kid?
