It says: I am not American.
The reason you don't understand is because every time someone assumes you are American they're right.
Everytime someone assumes I'm American they're wrong. |

I like that. There have been times when I have wanted to dust off the high school French and try to play around with someone. |

Done it.
A guy started talking to me on the subway a few years back and I was tired so I responded in French. It took him several minutes to figure out that I wasn't speaking English. |

Kind of like...when students call you "Sir" they're right, but when students call ME "Sir"....! |

Very first sentence I learned in Korean was "I am not an American" I've used it too on a few occasions since getting here.
When my Korean gets better I'll be able to pull the trick I used in Japan from time to time when they wanted to use me for target (sorry) language practice. I used to tell them I was German and couldn't speak English. Worked a treat. |

Pretend to be a cowardly anti-semite that's a good start to pass yourself off as a French national |

A while ago a couple of kids saw me coming up the road, and one started singing. "Hello, hello, hello, what's your name?"
I said, "Bonjour" just for fun. They didn't get it. |

Good one Dude. I often do this myself. While, yes ... i can of course speak English ( more or less ) the idea is largely to help address the widespread prejudice in Korea that EVERY western looking "foreigner" necessarily has English as their native tongue
Like it or not, because of years of government pro-PAGAN-da inundation, many still assume we're all Mee-guk-een. |

My boss's husband recently told me that he and the boss used to think all Americans were bad, but now they think there are good Americans because they met me...
I figure if Koreans can be made to see the light that somewhere in the 290,000,000 Americans there are a few dozen good ones, then somehow we must be able to convince Canadians, Kiwis, Aussies, etc. that there's a few good Americans out there. |
