http://news.yahoo.com/hyundai-motor-suicide-ad-draws-ire-south-korean-065054985--finance.html

"South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co has been forced to apologies (apologize) for an advertisement that sought to promote the zero carbon emissions of one of its cars by featuring a man failing to commit suicide using a hose attached to the exhaust."

Begs the question: What were they thinking?

(This might be a good conversation starter for an adult conversation class on the sensitive topic of "suicide.")

My guess:

Someone higher up the food chain thought it was hilarious, and none of his yes-men had the balls to tell him otherwise.

I thought it was a unique way to show off zero emissions. Too bad people are too sensitive.

It did it's job because we're talking about it. Makes me want to checkout an Hyundai next car purchase.

With Korea at the top of the list for countries with the highest suicide rate, why would a Korean car manufacturer think this was a funny way to sell cars?

Completely "nutzo!"

The human species is committing suicide with its emissions from automobiles, but is more worried about sensitivity in commercials than confronting that awful reality.

Idiotic analogy. Delusional, gyopo apologist point of view.

Hmm; not sure racist slurs are accepted on this site; and while that term can be used with endearment, you definitely did not use it that way, and was a racial slur.

For the record, not only gyopo's are 'apologists' (i.e. non-racists). I am white as sliced bread but still would be considered an 'apologist' because I don't get my '16 hours a week of bitching about Korea on the internet' in.

Some broad over at Slate is all wound about it:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2013/04/25/hyundai_suicide_ad_an_ad_exec_responds_with_memories_of_her_father.html

I think the concept is brilliant and hilarious, although the execution wasn't as good as it could have been. But people need to lighten up. The modern PC-movement and PC attitudes are completely destroying whatever may have made the west once a great place to live.

What I like about this post the most is its strident hysteria.

Are you married to a Korean? (Most whities who brag about not being gyopo yet still being defenders of Korea are.)

Waygeek, you are an apologist because you consistantly defend Korea to an absurd degree (on this and other sites).
