I would love to have met Steven Revere or Lisa Kelly while I was in Korea.

I did meet those two Canadian bloggers. You know who I'm talking about. I guess they don't count?

Of course, he beelined toward the most scantily-clad broads around. Pretty good 'hobby' if you can pull it off, but wonder how many times he's been slapped.

That's straining the idea of famous. Never met him, but he's been fired after refusing to submit grades at two places I've worked.

He used to have a blog section on english spectrum years ago. Long term teachers here would know who he was. His part was very funny and quite popular. He had a Q&A section that was hillarious.

Sadly the booze got him and now he's gone. Each time I met him he was just as drunk and funny in person as he was on the internet.

Was Jeff young when he passed away from drinking too much?

I have a friend that works at Yonsei, her best friend back in Nova Scotia is married to Cory. Just thought I'd share this. Because TPB is awesome.

In other TPB news I just found out that Phil Collins died last week. RIP The Gut.

Really? Phil Collins died? Man, that's terrible. How are they going to make trailer park boys 5; the movie? Well, hope he's eating many burgers now.

Now we know why it's barely changed Smile

The main reason it's barely changed is that Dave is resistant to new technology. He prefers to keep it at a scale that he understands and can have control over.

I suggested a few things to him 10 years ago that would have saved him a ton of time and made a ton of money - very rudimentary things, nothing groundbreaking - but he's kept it his own way.

In fact, I skinned this very forum.

I think he's lucky that his competitors have been idiots (I was hired by them, too); he should have been knocked off his block years ago.

Dave's is a venerable institution in the ESL industry, especially among expats in Korea. While it gets called a cess pool- often by people who can't handle the heat of criticism- there is no better place I can think of to catch a glimpse into the nature of expats in Korea. I've looked in a few of the other countries' forums and they don't seem to get much traffic.

Others can mimic, but there's only one original.

Well, he was one of the heavy-hitting bloggers for a number of years. He hasn't been posting nearly as much recently though. I'd say he's quickly losing relevance but gotta keep in mind for a number of years (early 2000s- 2010ish) he was one of the biggest games in town. His frequent warnings of the 'dangers' of being assaulted as a foreigner in the mid/late 2000s led many to label him a loon and his fall from grace began.

I remember him posting about how he got canned at one of the foreign language high schools, placing all blame on the school. It'd be interesting to get the other side of the story.

I met David Tz back in the day. I wouldn't say he one of the real big-names in blogging, but he has a sizable online presence. He used to run a bar out in Bucheon a few years ago. Real hard drinker and went through a nasty divorce, and then got arrested last year. Spent 8 months in a Korean slammer.

His blog is one of the most depressing things I've ever read. I hope he gets his life together:

Damn, his blog is pretty wild.

Thanks for that. You can buy the book too (I'm not above some shameless self-promotion...)

In ebook and print format:

On Kindle:

and in print on the Amazon imprint:

You can read a review here:

And finally, if you decide to pick it up, please write a review, good or bad is fine by me, but most of all enjoy reading it.

Why not just talk to him? he's a pretty approachable guy.

I was drinking with a bunch of guys at a pub in Itaewon a couple of years back. It was mid-week so basically there was just us in the bar. They were pretty cool dudes. After an hour I asked what they did in Korea. They had longish hair so I didn't bthink they were teachers. They said they were in a rock band and were over to entertain the troops. I asked the name of the band(s). They were the dudes from Puddle of Mud. The other band was called something like Spittle, or some such name. I'd never heard of them, but when I mentioned them to friends of the weekend they said they were now huge stateside. Millions they were, and here's me buying them rounds. Confused

My friend used to work with the Canadian radio announcer at eFM. The guy's name is Steve Hatherley. My Korean friend says he was a sleazy druggie and boozer who liked very young teenieboppers, sold E and hash, and worked illegally at one of the top bars in Hongdae while teaching at my friend's EHWA hogwon near Mapo Station. Why Anti English Spectrum and Korean Sentry don't out him is a mystery.
