2009 is the Year of the Duck, you dummies. Anyhow, why would you care if some ajumma's want to wear duck masks? I sure don't.

No, it is the Year Of The OX (you dummy)

I would guess the OP is referring to the kind of face-mask that looks like two pieces of material covering the lower half of the face. The top piece flaps over the bottom, so it looks like a breathing slit or something (which I guess you could say looks like an overly large mouth/duck beak.

They have no sense of public decorum (or logic) whatsoever. The ajummas walk around wearing visors and absurd face masks, opening themselves to ridicule, so as to avoid even a single freckle. They couldn't endure having a single freckle on their faces; that would be unbearable. They would look ridiculous. But to avoid that one freckle they walk around for most of their adult lives looking like Darth Vador's mildly retarded sister-in-law. Great logic there. Very Happy

I saw some adjuma wearing the whole getup while playing tennis with my co-teacher and her husband last summer! The adjuma were taking lessons and covered head to foot in bright colours, huge hat or visor with the duck/ninja mask on. They must have lost 20lbs sweating in all that gear!

Kind of resembles the one on the right in the green-background picture, but not quite.

Sure, if it were about air quality and not vanity. They don't see the connection that their aversion to the sun helps insure they will be the next generation of questionmarked shaped old ladies.

They're baaaack! It seemed yesterday was the official 'get out your silly mask and visor' day. Seemed like every ajumma I passed was wearing one.

Unbecoming.

its like batman, they have a full costume (unee-porm) and regardless of the weather, they have to don it.
i lost count of how many people i saw yesterday sweating their way up the mountains with, hat, mask, boots, fleece jacket, rain jacket and pack pack, while me and the missus strolled up in our shorts and T-shirts...

I had a conversation with a well traveled, open Korean about this. I asked if there is any chance that education about osteoporosis and depression secondary to low sun exposure would change this stupid fuckn mask bullst. They shook their head and said that dark skin = poor.

Tan was in back in the mid 90's. Tanning salons were all over the 이대, 신촌, 홍대 area.

I've been told that the more full-coverage versions are for those recovering from plastic surgery.
