I recently got my D10 visa and I have a job lined up for August. However, my understanding was that all of my documents were to be transferred back into an E2 visa when I get a new job and am ready to work. I got this visa so I wouldn't have to deal with the annoyances of getting a new RCMP record check and notarized copy of my degree. My prospective school is aware that I have the visa, but is now asking me to get these documents again for the Ministry of education. This seems to defeat my whole purpose of getting the D10 Visa. Does anybody have any experience with this?

It depends, if you had a D-10 and you left the country for a holiday for over 90 days you will need a new CRC. In your case I am guessing the next reason happened.

Now what your school asking for is paperwork for MOE. A certified copy from immigration should be fine (generally 95 percent of the time). To get a certified copy you will have to go to immigration in which you last registered and they will copy any old records you had submitted for first visa application. MOE should be fine with that.

Sometimes schools do not know alternative ways, they are very ABC and doe not always know C-F-G or other ways exist. You might have to pound it into their head that a copy from immigration will be fine.

Also remember D-10 is only to keep immigration happy. As a NET/GET sometimes you will have to deal with other departments that have other requirements.

I've done a D10 transfer twice.

As long as you haven't left the country after geting your D10 visa, you can transfer your documents without having to obtain new documents or leave the country to get a new E-2 visa.

Even though the D-10 visa is already a few years old, a lot of people are unaware of it.

My hagwons didn't know about it and the immigration offices I visited were also unaware.

I learned about the D10 Visa from Immigration's English help line, (02) 1345, and provided their phone number to local immigration officials.

It was actually quite easy to transfer.

I would encourage you to give Immigration a call, verify your situation and suggest your school contact them if there's still disagreement.

If you could, please post your results for other teachers.

Thank you both for your help! I will call immigration as soon as I can and post the results! (I currently don't have a phone, but will by next week so please be patient for results!)
Thanks again! These replies have been very helpful.

Good luck!

Out of curiosity I just called Immigration.

The person I spoke to was new to the visa and hadto place me on hold.

She explained that after accepting your new job, you need to bring your passport, arc and a copy of the school's business license (clarify this with the phone rep, but this is what I remember doing).

No photos needed, but make a copy of your passport and arc before dropping them off.

Fee is 70,000 KRW.

If there's confusion at the local immigration office when you visit, don't try to explain too much (issue of "saving face" comes in to play).

Just mention that the D10 is a new visa for job hunters staying in country and offer to provide Immigration's Help Line phone number, (02) 1345.
They'll figure it out after you leave.
