|
|
I think it was on Dave's where a year or two ago I read that we could just go down to the motor vehicles office here in Korea, have a quick 5 minute eye exam, hand in our Canadian drivers license and get a Korean mailed to us. Is that still the case?
My Canadian drivers license expires end of June (2 months) so I should get this taken care of quickly.
Any other details on the eye exam, or fees / timeline required?
Am I way off in assuming that it is as simple as described above? |

You need to get your home licence certified at your embassy first. Then go to the RTA.
It takes longer than five minutes. I'd leave at least a couple of hours to be safe. There seems to be conflicting information on whether Canadians need to take a written test or not. I'm Australian and I had to do one. It's on a computer and it's written in particularly hard to understand Konglish (or it was in 2010 when I did mine). I actually could not work out what several of the questions meant.
You do the eye test, have a photo taken (or bring a couple), and yes, it's pretty easy.
This was how it worked in 2010. I've heard that Americans can no longer get their licences certified at the embassy and have to send them home. I haven't heard of any other changes since I did mine and these threads pop up pretty frequently. |

Ugh, so I have to find the canadian embassy. I bet they're only open on weekdays and in Seoul or something That's going to be a problem.
Have any canadians done this while working and not living in Seoul? |

Isn't there an honorary Consulate in Busan for people who live further south.
You might not need a full day. |
