Every time I tell someone that I plan on teaching English in South Korea, I get a bunch of: "Oh, but what if South Korea gets bombed, etc." Blah blah. It seems no matter what I say about the North Korea situation, the replies are the same.

What can I say to calm the minds of friends and family?

Nothing, they all watch too much FOX/MSNCB/CNN/etc. so your messages will fall on deaf ears anyway.

I've figured as much... My mom keeps telling me that she fears for my safety and some of my dumb friends think that South Korea is North Korea. So, I've been hearing a lot of idiotic statements.

OP: you gotta read between the lines and see the empathy. When they say: "Korea's gonna be ...", they are saying: "I hate my job (if they have any) and want to teach English, too but I'm scared, or not qualified, etc and so I'm putting up this artificial barrier in front of me."
So, put them at ease by telling them that NK will bomb USA first and that you're living in God's country where abortions, marijuana, gay marriages are banned.
In this case their fear is 'USA is no longer No. 1 and Obama wants to keep it that way'. Fear will differ with others but always think: empathize and put 'em at ease.

As for the video link above: empathize with the motorists stuck in traffic and giveway to the maniac tow-ies!

slap them across the face and re-enact the "this is sparta" scene from 300 but obviously switch out sparta with korea.

no more questions will be asked.
