haha. i saw one on the daegu metro last year for the opera festival. It was a picture of a korean woman, looking down her nose at a monstrously, fat western woman who was disturbing everyone in the opera house with her fatness.
i think yrs. is worse though |

More confusing than anything. The suicide car ad made sense to me, but I do not see the link between a criminal goat and Mountain Dew.
In any case, they probably should have made the entire line up consist of goats. I do not say this often, but I can see why this ad would offend people. |

I think trying to find humor in the beating of a womanwas disgusting. I also did not understand the goat. Just pathetic. |

Well I would have been more offended had they made that change... |

I think our country needs to get some double standards back. Specifically certain companies and broadcast networks and celebrities should have a different "offensive" standard than others. A brand like Mountain Dew shouldn't be held to the same standard as say, McDonald's or Johnson & Johnson. |

It's curious that the person who came up with the idea is himself black, yet people still think it's racist. What about Chris Rock, or Maggie Cho or any of the other hundreds of comedians who make fun of their own race? Are we going to censor all of them now? I think Tyler the Creator was just playing around with stereotypes, the guy is a provocateur after all. I think a lot of people reacted angrily at first because they envisioned this campaign being dreamed up by a bunch of corporate white dudes and now that they found out it was a young black musician they don't want to lose face. I think Tyler himself explains it pretty well:

It was crazy. It's a black guy making this, and if it's so racist and feeding into stereotypes, why in the first commercial that goes along with it, is there a black male with his Asian wife? In the second commercial, it's a black male with a professional job as a police officer listening to hardcore rock music -- which supposedly the stereotype is that black people don't listen to that. The stereotypes are what I'm confused on, no one was even thinking about that. I was focused on that first zoom shot over their shoulders. That's what I was stoked on. You know why? Cause I like film, and I like directing, and that's where my heart was set. I wasn't thinking, Oh, let's use all black [people] or whatever. I wanted to use my friends. You know why? Cause I don't like using other actors. You can look at every one of my videos, and my friends are always in it. Saying that I'm racist -- every video I got, Lucas is in it! He's a little scrawny white kid. So what is this dude talking about?

Is this ad available anywhere? The link in the OP has been removed. I'm curious to see what people are talking about. |
