Hi all,
I've just been offered a job in an Uljin public school, starting second week of June. It is through a regional channel, not EPIK. Has anyone been/taught in this area, and if so, what did you think?
I also got an EPIK offer for a more standard cycle starting at the end of August. Still not sure about the location but my pref. is Gangwon POE (not so popular, but still... who knows where will I actually land).
The pay would be 100,000 more for the Uljin location. It is also in the coastal area which is what I wanted.
EPIK just seems a bit more "legit", since the Uljin job didn't even require an interview. The "Uljin recruiter" told me that my credentials looked good enough and that he had a pretty close relationship with the Uljin school system, therefore no interview is required.
I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

The Uljin school is a public school? Take what recruiters say with a grain of salt. They are like a car salesman trying to tell you anything to get a sell. Do some research on the school and see if there are any problems with it. Does the school have a website you can visit? One of my friends worked at a high school in Naju where the students weren't encourage to go to college. It was kind of like a vocational high school of sorts and the students didn't care about learning English since they wouldn't really need it after finishing high school. |

Cheers. I've actually decided to go with EPIK. The Uljin thing did seem a bit strange, because I did get a sense of desperation from the recruiter. It is a public school, it's just that Uljin school system doesn't use EPIK and instead take the regional route (I've talked to a few people who currently teach there). The nuclear reactor thread didn't help either (especially since it was shut down twice in the last 6 months due to some problems). |
