I've been using iTunes to rent movies for quite a while now, but recently signed up to Netflix through a VPN and have a one month free-trial which I'm trying to make the most of. Ultimately, I'm trying to figure out which would be better to use in the long-term. Netflix at $7.99 a month would work out cheaper, since I tend to rent around 4/5 movies a month, sometimes more. However, new releases seem to end up on iTunes before they come out on Netflix, such as Life of Pi.
So, which do you prefer and why? |

i never used iTunes but as for NetFlix, they rarely get New Releases around the time you can probably rent or get on iTunes.
Netflix is good for catching up on TV Shows but their Movie selection has gone down considerably since its fall out w/its customers when it attempted to raise prices
i tried the 1 month thing as well but within that month, pretty much watched everything i wanted to
if you like New Releases esp. Blockbusters, you would probably fair better sticking w/iTunes |

Exactly, why pay for stuff that is free? If it's a moral quandary you're facing, I'd just remind you that the billion dollar corporations that you're "stealing" from have been extorting you for most of your life; since information and media is mostly free now, I welcome what will likely be the brief window where internet savvy people were able to outsmart these dinosaur corporations that have largely held monopolies on information and media distribution. And this is coming from someone who was a step away from going to the dark side and studying intellectual property law!
Anyway, it's amazing how quick movies, TV shows, etc. are released on torrent sites. If you have a nice TV with USB ports, you can simply download movies or TV shows, put them on a 20k won USB flash drive and watch high quality stuff from your home, without paying a dime. Unless you're a new release junky, I'd say that's the way to go.
I can never find a good stream though when I try to watch sports live on my computer at home and at work, though... it's always sloppy, blurry and full of pop ups. I've never had any luck with that but the only site I ever use is ATDHE.whatever. |

While I torrent... I would gladly pay for something like Netflix if it was available with a similar library in Korea. Call my a hypocrite, but I don't think piracy can be justified (and this is coming from someone who has downloaded terabytes of music/movies). |

its not always a case of being a hypocrite, while were living here, its a bit of a neccesity.
I for one dont have a credit card so I cant access stuff online. I go to the cinema and concerts. I consider that my contribution.
Maybe its time you stopped using the pc, dvd and norae bangs then because they break every copyright law conceivable? |

Are you poor, or just anti-credit card? Who goes halfway around the world and doesn't have a credit card at least for emergencies? |

There are other options besides Netflix, FYI. Amazon, Hulu Plus, HBO Go, Vudu. Free movies from Crackle, Popcorn Flix, etc. Here is a list of Roku's main channels (just a small inkling of them):
http://www.roku.com/channels#!browse/movies-and-tv/by-popular
I'll be getting my Roku next month, and have loaded DD-WRT on a Korean router easily. Keep the VPN and get one. If you do get one, make sure you get the OpenVPN connection, as the PPTP connection cuts out on them often, and is annoying. Rokus are $50 back home, and from what I hear, the cheapest Rokus are awesome. Most shows aren't higher than 720p, anyway.
The one I bought is the $100 Roku 3, but I only when that much because I want 1080p (probably not necessary) and the earphone jack on the remote. But honestly, I kind of wish I'd gotten the cheaper $60 HD model.
450+ channels, including several pay-per-view movie channels that aren't too expensive. Redbox is coming out with an online version soon, if it hasn't already. I'm sure Roku will add it.
I've been running Netflix from here via StrongVPN, and love the kids shows. Leapfrog, Bo on the Go, SuperWhy, etc., are all helping my daughter to learn English at an incredible rate. |
