I haven't even read the entire thread, but after reading the replies on the first page I just can't help myself. What is wrong with guys on this forum? Admittedly I've only been here just shy of two months, but I have seen PLENTY of western women who are not overweight, never mind obese. I am one of 4 foreign females working at my school and only one could be called even slightly chubby. I've seen more than enough overweight foreign men and I also see plenty of fat Korean people (both male and female).
I'm 5'10 and weigh between 130 and 135 lbs. I wear a UK size 8 (I think that's a US size 4) and fit Korean ladies free size just fine (obviously the length can be a problem, but that's another subject).
You guys must be blind if you seriously think the vast majority of western females here are overweight or obese. I have friends who have been here much longer than me and none of them are anything bigger than a UK size 12, which I think is a US size 8. Even if they were larger, what's the big issue?
OP, you'll probably be fine. As I said, I've seen plenty of overweight foreign men here and they obviously managed to get a job. |

I think the 'overweight western woman' thing is mostly a canard. Foreigners stand out. If I see a western woman walking around some random town, I'll notice immediately if she's packing pounds. I'll remember them more. Just how it is.
I've met a good number of decent-looking western dames here (though not many 'stunners'). But the heavy-set folks stand out in the mind, guys and gals. I feel bad for them and a little embarrassed about their lack of personal care and self-respect.
My Korean gf is a bit on the heavy side compared to her countrymen, but I like curves. Great dinner dumper that you don't often see on Koreans, and a nice rack. So not every waygook is opposed to curves. I like the combo of the Korean personality plus western curves, hence my selection. Another fella in my building dates only white cancuks. Won't get tangled up with a Korean belle ever again. Different strokes for different folks.
Many dudes hate the strong personalities of western women but like the curves. |

Ms. Sparkles, this site is mostly a 'good old boys' hub for older gentlemen who are somewhat deficient at using/understanding the internet in its entirety.
That being said, your two months of observational experience means absolutely nothing. There are a lot of dorky dudes in Korea, that's for sure. But, men are more prone to be willing to travel and take on new experiences abroad. If you're an attractive, white western girl, there's very little incentive for you to uproot yourself from the large, potential bidders of male providers. That's just the way it is.
However, no homo, I'm surprised by the amount of decent looking western guys I see with unattractive Korean women. I never stray far from Itaewon and that's where I live, but it's still surprising, since you often hear a lot about how guys stay here for the women. Personally speaking though, I don't think I can ever go back to dating white women. Say what you will about that. |

That's because a certain type of Korean women is pretty unnatractive to Koreans, yet pretty okay in the West (slightly bigger face, slightly smaller eyes). They can either settle for lower class Korean, a western superstar English teacher or get 30k worth of surgery. The second option is easy enough.

Jumping back on the original topic for a minute. OP, you'll take some crap. Kids will call you fat and "Teacher Pig". Thick skin is super useful, and if your kids are good, they don't want to be malicious and will stop if they know it's upsetting. If your kids are bastards... that's a different situation.
I'm a big guy. Hovered around 180 lbs (5'10 or so) until I did my first stint of ESL in China, when I bumped up to around 240 or 250 lbs due to constant restaurants and drinking. I've since bounced between those two (thanks in large part to my sister who I watched drop like 50 lbs with sheer will), but I'm at the higher end of that range now and I admit my biggest problem is definitely my diet. I've gotta learn how to eat healthy in Korea.
On the plus side, my school offers to pay for any teacher's gym membership, so I have no excuses anymore! |

Dodge, I have to side with the women on this one. Your attitude really does suggest you were knocked back a few times in the States and still have a chip on your shoulder about it. Ladies can be wonderful people and company no matter how they look. If you don't find some of them physically attractive fair enough. If they come onto you, let them down gently, otherwise there's no need to bring the subject up. |
