Beer makes us fat. Looks like marijuana does the opposite.

Marijuana is often mixed with tobacco before being smoked. Nicotine is a well-known appetite suppressant.

It also causes complete remission of Crohn's disease

Quote:
Marijuana scientific name cannabis performed like a champ in the first-ever placebo-controlled trial of the drug to treat Crohns Disease, also known as inflammatory bowel disease.

The disease of the digestive tract afflicts 400,000 600,000 people in North America alone causing abdominal pain, diarrhea (which can be bloody), severe vomiting, weight loss, as well as secondary skin rashes, arthritis, inflammation of the eye, tiredness, and lack of concentration.

Smoking pot caused a complete remission of Crohns disease compared to placebo in half the patients who lit up for eight weeks, according to clinical trial data to be published the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

I've smoked pretty much every day since I returned to the States from Korea fourteen months ago, and I've lost close to 20 pounds in the process (from ~155 to ~135). Now, it's worth noting that my alcohol consumption has plummeted, and that I've found it much easier to eat a healthy diet here, but hey, who knows?

I'm not sure if 135lbs is a healthy weight in your case, but I similarly experienced an increase in overall function when I took up the green again after abstaining for a long time. I also drank a whole lot less and boy do I miss it. It's a good thing, it's a natural herb that helps us in many ways. The denigration of marijuana is completely absurd.

Also, aren't you still in Korea? That's like going to Pattaya without condoms.

That's not the reason, though. Look:

Quote:
even though researchers acknowledged that people who use marijuana consume more calories than non-users, they still found links between smaller waist circumference and marijuana use.

I am still here, as long as they keep handing these four hour a day jobs to me, it's hard to leave and go back to the machine. If your Pattaya without condoms analogy was relating to Korea without alcohol, I'd definitely agree that's the case/a necessity. I've been going strong since I found out that I have an open class on Monday/tomorrow, so if the ajumma peanut gallery doesn't like me, I'll be moving on back to the real world. And I kind of look forward to doing that in a way.

I do want to say that it's unfortunate that so many Asian countries are narco police states; clearly, many of these countries, like Korea, would benefit enormously from marijuana. But, I'm of the opinion that that's why pot continues to remain illegal globally, on the whole: They don't want you realizing the system they've created is a fake, corrupt cesspool of theft and monopolies. They want you to drink shitty beer and become more stupid, watching American Idol every night and forgetting about how your government should justly serve you. Label me a conspiracy theorist, but all I see when I read the news is a bunch of garbage that doesn't qualify as news. I feel like quoting the film "Network" but I'm not digging my corny side right now.

Right. I saw some links that said marijuana users could eat more calories, yet still be thinner. It has something to do with insulin levels and metabolizing fats and carbs or something. This was even found in lab rats too. (In a different, earlier study.) I guess we know why Snoop and Wiz Khalifa are so thin now. Incidentally, alcohol can screw up a person's metabolism, making them fatter. It drops testosterone, among other things. And drinking beer = drinking calories. Want to be fat: drink alcohol. Want to be lean: smoke marijuana.

But marijuana causes pigs to gain weight.

Quote:
Susannah Gross, who owns a five-acre farm north of Seattle, is part of a group experimenting with a solution that seems to make the most of marijuana's appetite-enhancing properties - turning weed waste into pig food.Four pigs whose feed was supplemented with potent plant leavings during the last four months of their lives ended up 20 to 30 pounds heavier than the half-dozen other pigs from the same litter when they were all sent to slaughter in March.

Conversely: Want to be in jail in Asia? Smoke marijuana. Want to be free and enjoy booze with ajoshis? Drink alcohol!^^

It is a trigger for Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome in some people.

http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/cvs/

"Patients who use cannabis whether natural or in synthetic form called 'Spice' also don't realize their unexplained episodes of cyclic nausea and vomiting may be a result of this use, with some increasing their cannabis use because they may think it will help alleviate their symptoms -- and it actually makes them worse," said Dr. Crissien-Martinez. "The only resolution is cannabis cessation."

Dr. Crissien-Martinez co-authored the case report, "Marijuana: Anti-Emetic or Pro-Emetic" which described a series of 9 patients with cannabinoid hyperemesis at Scripps Green Hospital with average age at diagnosis 30 years-old; 88 percent male; onset of cannabis use during teen years; 88 percent used cannabis daily; 56 percent compulsive bathing behavior; and 80 percent symptom resolution with cannabis cessation.

"This case illustrates that CHS should be in the differential diagnosis of unexplained, episodic abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting, particularly if relieved with compulsive hot showers. Recognition of this syndrome is important to prevent unnecessary testing and to reduce health care expenditures," said Dr. Cheng. "We have also noted, particularly in the active duty population where drug testing for cannabis usage is done routinely, that there appears to be an increased usage instead of the synthetic cannabinoids, so we would advocate routine additional testing for them when the clinical suspicion is high."

Patients frequently have multiple hospital, clinic and emergency room visits with extensive negative work-up to include imaging studies, endoscopies, and laboratory testing before they are finally diagnosed with cannabinoid hyperemesis, according to the researchers of both case reports.
