7.5 km about 9,000 won according to Daum map. YMMV.

Cab from Hongdae to anywhere else on a weekend night: 20,000 minimum. |

NOT. I'm pretty sure I've never paid more than 11,000 back to Itaewon on a Saturday night. It's really not far enough to get hosed, unless you don't know where you're going and you let the cab driver take you for a ride. |

Yeah, depends on where you are at either place as well as traffic/time of day, but it's pretty much a straight shot from place to place if you get the cab at the right spot. 7-10k is correct, but I've paid around 20k during rush hour(s). The only issue is traffic, really. I moved from Hongdae to Itaewon a year and a half ago or so, made a few trips with my stuff via taxi. It all boils down to timing and traffic. Better keep an eye on the road though... I was taking a girl back to my place from Hongdae to Itaewon a while back, and we were making out in the back of the cab, when I realized we were halfway across Mapo bridge! Cabs are great here, but they'll take you on the scenic route if you look like a tourist or aren't paying attention. |

7,000k? I wish. 9-13, depending on time of day and exact locations. And yes, I used to live in one with friends/meetings in another so I've made this trip at least 70-100 times (no exaggeration). I used to make it in 8,000k in the dead of night/early morning, but then the rates went up. You'd be lucky for 9k, going from tip of one area to the other with no traffic and an aggressive driver.
Rush hour is bad, but absolute worst time to make this trip is Saturday evening (3pm-11pm). The highway is often faster (again, depends on time of day) but will cost more. |

Poster was referencing the mark-up taxis in Hongdae try to do if you are looking to catch one in central Hongdae.
I feel like I average around 10 bucks, but I don't usually do central Itaewon/Hongdae or vice versa. |

Every time I've tried to get a ride out of Hongdae on a Friday/Saturday night with friends, we had several cab drivers refuse to take us before finally getting one. I've seen plenty others get denied as well. Last winter, some friends and I had to bribe a driver either 20,000 or 30,000 won (can't quite remember now) to get to Mokdong, because nobody would take us. We figured it was because it was too far. But then two weeks ago, it was raining so we wanted a ride back to our hotel in Sinchon. Every driver we asked just laughed and kept driving. Then we started offering 10,000 won before one guy finally took us. It seems like standard practice there, at least past 2am. Perhaps you get your rides earlier in the night before the drivers decide to start rinsing their passengers. |

This is illegal and shouldn't be happening anymore... but still does.
That said, best place (I've found) is either on the main road near Hapjeong station or on the road where the main gate is heading towards Sogang. The cabs that are rolling by slowly or waiting for passengers are likely to scam/want more from you. |

I live in Daeheung and getting a taxi the short distance to either there or Sinchon on a weekend night from Hongdae is impossible. Drivers just laugh and tell you to eff-off. If you're lucky you can just open the door and jump in then demand they take you.
Coming from Itaewon to Daeheung or maybe Sinchon on a Fri/Sat after 12, it's usually about 7,000 for me. Maybe up to 10 for Hongdae. As mentioned above, I've looked up to see the driver crossing the Hangang river instead of driving the (relatively) straight road down line 6.
Best bet is to head over the crest of the Itaewon main street (IP Boutique Hotel area) or down past Taco Bell and catch a cab there. |

Didn't realize it was so cheap. Itaewon and Hongdae are quite a distance from each other! Love the cheap taxis here! |

I live between Daeheung and Hongdae. The only time I've had problems getting a taxi is when I stand at areas where lots of people are trying to get taxis (the main road up to the university and the area around FF). I've never had a problem getting a taxi once I walk a little bit away from the main Hongdae area. |
