This is a bit of a longshot, but has anyone got advice for me on hotels near O'Hare Intl. Airport in Chicago? I'll be flying in this Saturday and I'm not sure if I want to make a reservation. Right now, my plan is likely to be a night in a hotel adjacent the airport. Then a train into the city the next day, then an Amtrak out of Chicago about 2pm on Sunday. Again, I'm reluctant to book anything because I am hoping I can still catch a ride from my family or friends.

In a nutshell:
1.) What hotels are near the airport? Are they likely to fill up on the weekend?
2.) Would you advise booking a ticket for the train in advance... is it likely to fill up also? I've only traveled from Chicago to Wisconsin once by train and it seemed pretty vacant. But, that was years ago.

Are you landing really late at night? If not, i would suggest taking the blue line downtown. There are plenty of hotels by O'hare, basically any chain you can think of, but they probably won't be any cheaper than someplace nicer and more interesting downtown.

Just a little bit late on this. I already booked at the Super8. I guess I could cancel by Friday though. My initial Google a few weeks ago seemed to indicate pricey places downtown. I've only been to Chicago twice in my life. If you can think of any places near Union Station let me know.

the Congress tends to be pretty cheap, friends of mine have stayed there. There's a huge HI hostel on Wabash just south of the loop as well. both of those are probably a 30 minute walk or 5 minute taxi to Union Station.

The one upside to buying your Amtrak ticket in advance is it might save you a few bucks, but if there is a chance you might not need to use the train, then might as well get the ticket then.

Never have taken the train from Chicago, but I've taken it in the much busier NE corridor (DC-NY-Boston) and have never had a problem getting a ticket the day of travel.
