hi all, if anyone can please advise,
i have been at my hogwan for 4 years, and am thinking about returning home. i may not have all my things organized at the end of the contract, so im considering renewing a 5th year, then quitting job possibly only a few months into the new 1 year contract, when im ready to return to australia.
can i please ask , what impact would breaking a contract have on my immigration visa record, given that i have already given 4 years of service.
would i be likely to receive a blackmark on my visa record? (i might return to korea to work in a few years time)

No issues other than you being a huge jerk the the people you have worked for/with for 4 years. Also who refers to their job as "doing service" |

To answer your questions...
What impact on your immigration file = None (other than not being able to get a new E2 till your contract expires)
and blackmark in your immigration file = no.

| Why not ask the hagwon if they can extend your contract only a few months? You could do a contract extension and not have to deceive anyone. |

| Considering you've been teaching with them for 4 years, they must be pretty good owners, treated you right, etc. Why not just let them know in advance that you'd like to teach a few months into the year and go back home? They sound like they've done you right. No need to screw them over just for that reason. |

| Why do people think of quitting a job in Korea mid-"contract" as screwing others over? What makes this place special compared to your home country? People quit jobs whenever they feel like it, for whatever reason they want to. Korea is no different. The OP might even give them notice. He didn't say he wouldn't. |

My first job was 3 months with NOVA in Japan. The next was 3.5 years.
The shortest was 3 weeks before bailing. Right now, I am leaving after 3 months, and after 2 other teachers walked out. 6 total, 2 of the remaining 3 came late. |

A waist of a letter of recommendation is a wrong thing to do. Make sure that you leave on good terms and get that recommendation especially after 4 years.
As for black marks on your visa, those don't exist in Korean immigration.

he has a special belt just for waisting those letters.
Anyway sure he can quit but if he gives a damn he will do it right... Not plan on doing it in a way that will make trouble for his employer and coworkers. |
