Booze is a major social thing in Korea, they might not admit it but once you get here you'll see what I mean. I think if you put 1 per week you're saying you're open to going out once a month with your co-workers for beer/soju...

I'd second this as the correct answer, if you enjoy a drink. An element of drinking among teachers is part of the school system. Builds camaraderie etc.

Put down 0 because you can always change your mind in when you get there. If you put 1 or more, then the school will probably think you are an alcoholic and come to class drunk. Hagwons and public schools are always complaining about drunk foreigners coming to class. I would bet money that question is there to catch "drunk" foreigners.

My initial reaction is to put down as many drinks as possible, considering how hard many of the Korean men drink here. Wouldn't want to seem like a weirdo. (I had one EPIK app that only let you select up to 9 drinks. Ha!!)

On the other hand, I've noticed that some Koreans can have serious double standards. One of my friends (also foreign) went out for a night with a potential employer, and the employer and two of his friends (also Korean) started peeing outside in public... But when my friend went to pull out his tackle, they immediately said, "No! You can't pee outside! You're an American." Wtf?

I've been hired for EPIK twice and I think I put 2 each time. I was never asked about it.

I never drank until I went to Korea.

0 should be fine (unless you are already in Korea Wink).

i put down 4-5 drinks per week on my EPIK application. they asked me about it in the interview. i said that i have a few drinks on the weekends with my friends, but that i never drink during the week because i don't let drinking interfere with my work performance.

i got hired with no problems at all. i know a number of other people in the February EPIK intake for this year who put down more than 0 drinks per week who also got hired with no problem at all (some of us actually discussed the drinking question on the application and how many drinks people put down - the most common amount was around 2-3 or 4-5, from what i remember).

I put down 7, every day of the week! I'm still here... that was 5 years ago. Oh! And my LFT came back normal every year.
