Quick... we'd better start tightening marriage requirements for foreigners!

Oh, wait... maybe that doesn't apply because it's being spoken about in another thread?

Well this just gives the hateful koreans (they know who they are) more fuel for the fire incase someone from this country does something that they dont understand.

But on a side note
"Accurate unemployment figures in Malawi are hard to compute because of the lack of a national identification system to track those out of a job"

This brings a bit of worry to the table. If there is no national ID system, what if someone decides to bail/quit/run off etc. Im sure koreans would have a field day with that.

I expect Vietnamese, Chinese, or Mongolian laborers would be better received than Africans, but I guess even they aren't cheap enough. This deal sounds very shady indeed.

Forgive the cynicism, but I think it would be a good idea for the Korean government to add some new employees in the departments that deal with complaints from foreign workers because they are about to get slammed!

I wonder if they'll be testing for Khat on the drug test?!

If so I bet 70% of these guys will fail!

Will they be AIDS tested?

I really really really think this is going to end badly!

Man I can just imagine the 'training' they'll be getting for 'adapting' to Korean life! Embarassed

Imagine the news stories when one of them finally snaps and machetes
their brutal suppressor and then feeds him to the pigs!

Korean 삼겹살 number 1!

Nothing new there. They are called, "Industrial trainees" (D3 visas) and have been used for years to fill factory and farm positions for years and years.

In the west they would be called, "indentured servants" and in Korea they are largely treated as such.

There is a reason that there are 30-odd migrant worker help centers located around the country and it isn't for the E2 workers.

At any given time there are close to 2 million foreigners living and working in Korea and the vast majority of them are NOT from what we would consider "developed nations".

Too high - as much as 25% in some demographic groups
BUT
a better question would be, "How many young Korean workers would be willing to work in DDD jobs rather than be unemployed?"

They import D3 labor because Korean won't do those jobs (at any reasonable wage).

But, what are these jobs paying? I agree they suck. I had quit a toilet paper factory summer job years ago after the second shift. Was no good, 12 hour shifts, and not such great pay. That said, if they had of paid 15 to 20 bucks an hour instead of 8 at that time, I would have stuck it out changing shifts and odd days off and all. What are these migrant workers being paid - 2 bucks an hour? Since minimum wage is 4000 wonish i hear, paying over man won an hour might attract some of these folks. (Maybe they do already and I'm just too daft to know it.)

15-20k won per hour for menial labor isn't going to happen any time soon.

The current minimum wage is 4860won/hr (about 1016k won - $900/mo) based on a 8 hour day/40 hour work week.
