Ok be honest how many people applied for the cream Hongik University job? Yes, the application requirements (paperwork) was more than the normal

Did you supply everything in the list? If you didn't by Monday 3 (application deadline) you will not get a look in!

So traditionally, Hongik got about 400 applicants - I don't know how many there are now. But It is all quiet on this board. No one is sharing information compared to other university jobs where questions are asked and answer.

Oh, we all want this job Smile

Did you see the Dave's ad that said PhDs preferred? I think it's going to be hard for MAs to get in. Of course, there are BAs working there (quite a few), but they got in before standards were raised. Now you have to have an MA to even apply, and with your MA you will be competing against many, many others. This is too bad because I want the Hongik job too, but getting it is unlikely. I assume with each passing semester, getting in will become more difficult. I'm surprised Hongik didn't worsen their working conditions yet. Everyone is telling me it's such a great place to work. You can have complete control and freedom over what you teach.
Here's how to apply, guys:

Good luck!

Is the university still enforcing the 2-year contract plus possibility of only one renewal for a max. total of 4 years? I've heard that there are some people who don't get renewed for the second 2-year contract but that most teachers get the second renewal. So is it still 4 years max, and then you'r out at Hongik?

They won't get Ph.D holders, at least not native English speaking ones.

You having another day-off from being religious, Dodge7? I know, it's tough, all that "be compassionate and humble" crap. I can sympathize.

I don't believe I gave any advice. I just hope one day you will actually embrace all aspects of your religion (the be nice to others bits, mainly), rather than just those parts that allow you to act intolerant and condemn people who disagree with you to hell.

Maybe next Sunday, huh?

They won't, it's too easy for PhD's to get better ESL related jobs with higher pay.

A PHD to make 3.9 million won a month? Brutal investment on that one.

Plenty of E2s making more than that with just a CELTA.

Not only that but you also pay rent up to .5 million won monthly AND you live on campus.

So only 3-3.4 million after rent...and then there is tax so you are looking at under 3 million net for Seoul positions

Plus it's non-tenure track.

If I were a Ph.D holder I'd be looking for something else.

The wages advertised are for MA's. If you have a PhD the wage is 500,000 to 1 million more a month. A lot of PhD's do actually apply, but not always related and a lot of them are passed over for people with MA's in a relevant field. Perhaps a CELTA on an E-2 could make more money per month, but probably not for a total of 90 or less working days a year, and only 4 hours a day when you are working.

I don't hope any of that. I just hope one day he realises how hypocritical it is to be so outspokenly religious, yet at the same time act almost completely opposite to what you'd expect a Christian to be.
