Where's the best place to get a reasonably priced standing electric fan?
Walked into HomePlus the other day, and saw them all around 40,000.
Damn expensive, considering I could get a decent one for like 20,000 back in Vancouver.
I mean unless 40,000 is the going price here in Korea.

| You are wasting your valuable time trying to save $20. This is the way to be rich: have time make that into money, have money make that into time. China gets rich because all too many waste their time saving pennies. You save pennies when there will be many more tansactions in the future, not for a one off transaction such as buying a fan. You heard of Koreans paying too much attention to appearance? They do also take note when you make poor shopping decisions. |

yeah, okay, whatever that was about...
You won't find box fans or cheap circulating fans here, not like back home. 40,000 isn't terrible. You MIGHT find something cheaper, but odds are that's going to be the best deal you find. Fans are not cheap here. |

| You can get a fan for around 20,000KRW on gmarket. Don't ever buy anything at one of those dept stores. Or just buy a used one on craigslist. |

Hi,
I ended up buying a decent sized one for a little over 20,000 on GMarket as optik404 suggested.
I didn't know fans here were so expensive. Perhaps I should've invested in one prior to the heatwave. My friend said air-con prices have jumped substantially since winter. I should've taken that as a hint and bought a fan ASAP!

They are not expensive. They are overpriced, much like most other things at the department stores. Gmarket is the way to shop these days in Korea, for food, furniture, you name it.
Still, when there's a big sale at the department store, the prices there tend to beat even those on Gmarket, so I wouldn't say that venturing to the department stores is a bad idea once in a while. Besides, there are some things which are better to buy at the actual store - clothes, etc. |

I bought a Vornado at Costco. I really had to talk myself into spending the 90,000 for it, but it's been worth every penny.
Fans last a long time if you buy a half decent one and not just the cheapest one you can find. |

I'm trying to do that as we speak. I've survived the bulk of the heat so far without a fan.. although I did die on Sunday (34 degrees.. wtf)
I heard air conditioners use a lot of electricity? |

Basing how much to charge on the previous tenants usage kw wise and all that crap jacked my summertime bill up quite a bit my first year there. I learned the game and adjusted afterwards. |

Yep - officetels are messed up. You might be on vacation during summer, yet you'll still pay 300K Won per month. |
